Rabbi, Congregation Celebrate First
Service in Temple Israel Sanctuary

Three thousand people as-
sembled in the new building of
Temple Israel on Rosh Has-
hanah eve, last Monday, to par-
ticipate in the first service in
the congregation's recently-
completed sanctuary.
In hiS opening sermon, "The
New Year in the New Temple,"
Rabbi Leon Fram felicitated the
congregation upon the enthusi-
asm and devotion which brought
them to this triumphant hour
of entering their own Temple
building.
"We were only a handful of
families when we organized in
July, 1941," said Rabbi Fram,
"but so strong was our love for
Liberal Judaism, that in the
course of nine years we grew to
become one of the largest con-
gregations in the country, and
have built one of the great
synagogues of America."
Rabbi Fram's sermon was
based on the text from Psalm
100—"Come before His preSence
with singing." These words form
the inscription upon the inner
door of the new temple.
In greetings to the congrega-
tion at the opening service,
Harry C. LeVine, president of
the temple, ,said, "We have yet
many things to do to make this
building really complete. The
permanent seats, delayed by a
strike in the seating company
factories, have yet to be install-
ed. The landscaping has yet to
