Israel Moods

L'Shonah Tovah! . . The concluding Jewish year has ce-
mented the position of Israel internally and among nations of the
world despite economic difficulties . . . Now the leaders of the
Israel government are planning to advance stability in the country
by instituting certain changes in the Cabinet . . . Members of the
Cabinet who are slated to be replaced are: Golda Myerson, Min-
ister of Labor; David Remez, Minister of Communications, and
Pinhas Rosen, Minister of Justice . . . Dr. Bernard Joseph will
remain Minister of Supply, but all economic functions which he
assumed in 1949 in the wake of rationing, will be taken away from
him . . . The Ministry of Trade, lately held "in trust" by Finance
Minister Eliezer Kaplan, and the Ministry of Agriculture, held
"in trust" by Dr. Joseph, will go to new Ministers . . . The Health
Ministry, too, "managed" by Moshe Shapira, Minister of Immigra-
tion, will have a new Minister . . . Slated for appointment are
first of all D. Z. Pinhas, the Mizrachi chairman of the all-im-
portant finance committee of the Israel Parliament . . . He may
get the Trade Ministry . . . Pinhas Lubianiker, secretary-general
of the Histadrut, is certain to become Minister of Labor, if he
agrees . . . Also mentioned for the post is Abba Hush', leader of
Israel's Labor Party in Haifa . . • Premier Ben Gurion has been
endeavoring to widen his government, offering Cabinet posts to -
the General Zionists and to the left-wing Mapam Socialists . . .
However, his attempts in this respect have failed . . . Since then,
there have been three reasons for the delay in making necessary
Cabinet changes on the present coalition basis .. . First, a desire
to avoid upsetting the present delicate coalition balance within
the Cabinet . . . Second, a personal reluctance on the part of the
Premier to drop old friends, especially of his own party . . . Third,
inability to decide who is good enough to rise to Cabinet level ...

Domestic Affairs

The concluding year was marked by a tendency on the part
of American Jewish organizations to move more and more toward
centralization of activities . . . The most recent step in this direc-
tion was made by the major Jewish groups affiliated with the
National Community Relations Advisory Council . . . Instead of
each organization issuing a separate statement on such issues as
Korea, immigration, legislation, and other important national
problems, they all agreed to make these statements jointly through
the NCRAC ... This kind of centralization, naturally, adds weight
to the statements issued and eliminates the "competition" which
has existed among the major Jewish groups in rushing state-
ments to the press . . . It must be noted that the constituent
organizations of NCRAC include the American Jewish Committee,
American Jewish Congress, Bnai Brith, Jewish Labor Committee,
Jewish War Veterans and other important groups . . . There is
still no agreement among them on the question of whether there
should be division of responsibility with regard to the work they
are doing in the field of combatting anti-Semitism . . . However,
there is a definite agreement among them on coordination . . .
The issue concerning the "division of responsibility" is centered on
the question: Should there, or should there not be, a division of
responsibilities among the agencies in the field, to the fullest
extent possible, so that it would be generally known and acknowl-
edged that a certain area of work is the responsibility of one
organization and is not the responsibility of any of the others .

The Women's Auxiliary, Jew-

Habonim to Make Kinnereth Hebrew
Speaking Camp in New Program

An outstanding experience in
Hebrew education ended re-
cently for 60 young Jewish peo-
ple from the United States and
Canada when Habonim. Camp
Amay concluded its 1950 camp-
ing season. Moshe Margolit,
Levi Gura, David Wesley, Jack
Weiner, David Appel, Vivian
Sornberg and Tzvi Mathis from
Detroit participated in the camp.
Amal, founded three years ago
by Habonim, Labor Zionist
Youth, as an experiment in He-
brew summer camping, has
achieved in its short existence
a recognized place in American
Hebrew education. This year it
spent its first season on its
permanent site at Killingworth,
Conn., with 60 campers.
Sponsors of the camp in De-
troit are M. Goldoftas and H.
Bendore.
One of the expressions of this
program is the manner in which
Shabbat is celebrated at camp.
Shabbat is introduced by bless-
ing the candles and kiddush.
After the festive meal which is
concluded by Birkat- Hamazon
the evening program is present-
ed.
The Shabbat is concluded with
Havdalah around the weekly
campfire.
The formal part of the edu-

cational program is centered
around the study of current
Jewish problems and Hebrew
literature.
Detroit's Camp Kinnereth, it
was announced this week, will
be geared to match the national
program and will be transformed
into a Hebrew-speaking camp.
Further details will be an-

nounced later.
