Tel Aviv Studies
$50,000,000 Port
Expansion Plan

NEW YORK, (JTA)-A master
plan for a $50,000,000 harbor
improvement program designed
to make Tel Aviv one of the
most modern deep-sea ports in
the eastern Medite'rranean is
under consideration by the Is-
rael Government, it was report-
ed by Alexander Zipstein, man-
ager of the port, upon his ar-
rival here.
Zipstein said that port au-
thorities at Tel Aviv have
already spent $100,000 on
studies for this program. The
master plan, drawn up by an
American concern of consultant
marine engineers, would include
the erection of modern piers,
wharves and other docking
facilities together with adequate
equipment for loading and dis-
carging cargo.
Seven municipalities and local
councils in the Tel Aviv area
signed a preliminary agreement
with H. Kaufman, • a London
sewerage expert for the prepa-
ration of plans for the construc-
tion of a $14,000,000 sewage dis-
posal system.

Last Jewish Refugees
To Leave Tanganyika

NEW YORK, (JTA)-The last
of 60 Jewish refugee families
stranded in Tanganyika during
the war will soon depart for
Australia, Dr. Israel Goldstein,
chairman of the Western Hem-
isphere Branch . of the World
Jewish Congress executive, an-
nounced.
In February, 1948, these fami-
lies, who were residing in a
refugee camp in Tengeru, Tan-
ganyika, appealed to the World
Jewish Congress against an IRO
decision to close their camp and
transfer them to camps in Ger-
Many. ,
They asked for an opportunity
to settle elsewhere. The World
Jewish Congress obtained the
right for several of these fami-
lies to settle in the United
States, and for some to settle in
Australia. The majority left for
Israel.

The late Prime Minister of
Canada, William Lyon Macken-
zie King, was eulogized as a
visionary statesman and strong
supporter of Israel's . establish-
ment in the Canada Israel Re-
porter, a monthly newsletter
devoted to Israel-Canadian re-
lations.
The Prime Minister's support
for Israel was based on "his per-
sonal religious convictions which
interpreted "T h e Return" to
the Holy Land as one of the
purposes of God," the article
states.
Mr. King's record of progres-
sive government and his respect
for the rights of Canadian min-
ority groups is also remembered,
and extolled by the realization
that he was supported by a
strong religious conviction.

Uruguayan Senator
Hits Internationalization

JERUSALEM, (JTA) -"I am
strongly opposed to internation-
alization of JeruSalem, which is
comparable to proposing inter-
nationalization of Rome in order
to protect the Vatican," Senator
Paysse Reyes, of Uruguay, de-
clared here.
The Uruguay statesman, who
is here on a visit, added that,
"to enter the Holy Places in
Israel is easy for anyone, since
there are no restrictions, but it
is a difficult procedure on the
Arab side."
Senator- Reyes, a member of
the Uruguayan delegation to the
United Nations, is in Israel as a
guest of the government, along
with Jose Figueres, former Pres-
ident of Costa Rica, and Fran-
cisco , Orlith, former Costa Rican
Minister of Public Works.

Zionism Slandered

LONDON-(WJA)- Maintain-
ing its propaganda offensive

cated in the USA where "col-
lecting boxes were being rattled
to raise funds for its support."
