Registered Jewish voters in
Detroit who have not received
their applications for absentee
ballots for the Sept. 12 primary
were urged to get in touch with
the office of the JeWish Com-
munity Council or the city
clerk's office immediately.
Local Boy Scout troops, under
the direction of Albert Green,
have undertaken a door to door
canvass of voters in the Jewish
residential section to acquaint
them with the absentee voting
provisions.
A sub-committee of the Wom-
en's Actions Committee of the
Council procured signatures for
absentee ballot applications in
neighborhood business estab-
lishments.
The applications also have
been available at centers
throughout the Jewish corn-
munity synagogues, Jewish cen-
ters, Jewish War Veterans Home,
Workmen's Circle and the Labor
Zionist Institute.
Absentee ballots also may' be
obtained at the City Hall, any
day until Sept. 9, and voting
may take place at that time.

British Ok Israel
Plant Investment

LONDON, (JTA)—The British
Treasury has approved the es-
tablishment of an assembly
plant in Israel for agricultural
and other machinery by the .
200-year-old firm, C. H. Johnson
Machinery, Ltd., located in
Stockport.
The Johnson company will
operate the plant in partnership
with a group of Israel investors.
A sum of 100,000 pounds ($280,-
000) has been invested in the
project.
This is the second big project
approved by the Treasury under
an agreement reached two
months ago between the Treas-
ury and Israel authorities,
whereby the British authorities
undertook to "consider favorably
applications from British firms
for permisSion to e s t a b l i s li
branches in Israel" and transfer
to the Jewish state equipment
for this purpose.

Agency Disputes Jewish British Empire Rabbis
Committee's Stand on Warned of Communists
Aid to Jews in Europe
LONDON, (JTA)—Chief Rabbi

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Criticism
against the American Jewish
Committee for advocating a
"Jewish Point Four Program"
for the Jews still remaining on
the European continent who
need adjustment is voiced in a
newsletter published by the Jew-
ish Agency here.
Declaring that "perhaps no
more blatant example could be
found of an obstinate refusal to
draw the plain inference from
history than the behavior of the
Jewish refugees who have re-
mained in Europe" instead of
making Israel their permanent
home, the Agency's article says:
"More surprising, however, is
the American Jewish Committee
attitude." It points out that
since the Jewish survivors on the
European continent "have failed
to grasp the hand stretched out
to them from Israel," their fu-
ture must be their own respon-
sibility.
"The American Jewish Corn-
mittee," the article continues,
"is known as a non-Zionist body
which has, on the whole, taken
a sympathetic interest in Zion-
ism. Let it not, therefore, by
diverting part of the funds
raised by United States Jewry,
or by trying to raise additional
funds, extend help of the most
doubtful efficacy to the Jews,
who ignoring the lessons of the
recent past; have chosen to re-
main in Europe. Any such help
is bound to be detrimental to
Zionism, whether directly or in-
directly. It would therefore
necessarily constitute an anti
Zionist act."

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Premier
David Ben-Giirion, acting in be-
half of the Israel government,
and the Jewish Agency has con-
vened a three-day meeting with
American Jewish communal
leaders to discuss American Jew-

At the meeting, which will
open in Jerusalem Sept. 3, a
