With the approach of Jewish
Education Month, Yiddish and
Hebrew school are making a co-
ordinated community effort to
urge parents to provide their
children with a formal Jewish
education.
Representatives of schools re-
ceiving financial support from
the Allied Jewish Campaign met
as a sub-committee of the edu-
cation and culture division of
the Jewish Federation to plan
a specific program and arranged
to mail to 15,000 Jewish families
of Detroit a pamphlet explain-
ing the , Why, What and When
of a Jewish education for their
children.
The pamphlet points out that
a Jewish child's happiness de-
pends to a large degree upon
the way he meets the Jewish
aspects of his life. It emphasizes
that girls, too, deserve to have
their lives enriched by a Jewish
education.
Included in the brochure will
be a map showing the location

of all Hebrew and Yiddish
schools. Congregational schools
also will be listed.
Schools cooperating in this ef-
fort include United Hebrew
Schools, United Jewish Folk
Schools, United Jewish High
School, Workmen's Circle Schools
and Yeshivath Beth Yehudah.
The committee organizing the
program includes Albert Elazar,
chairman, Herman Bendore,
Movsas Goldoftas, Moishe Haar,
Harry Katz, Jack Kellman, Mrs.
Maurice A. Landau, Louis Rap-
hael, Berth-a Robinson, Samuel
Sigal, Samuel S. Taxey, Rabbi
Wasserman and Julius Wein-
berg.
Organizations are urged to
participate in the promotion of
Jewish education. They can ar-
range to secure speakers by call-
ing Ben M. Mandelkorn at the
Jewish Welfare Federation, WO,
5-3939.
