Ask Knesset Okay
On Loan, Lottery

JERUSALEM, (JTA)-The Is-
rael Government sought author-
ization from parliament to float
a "popular loan" to raise 12,000,-
000 Israel pounds. Bonds in de-
nominations of 20 pounds each
would be offered for sale in the
drive.
Holders of the bonds would
automatically participate in a
lottery, the highest prize being
25,000 pounds. A bill to this
effect was submitted to parlia-
ment by 'Finance Minister Elie-
zer Kaplan. It is expected that
parliament will approve the bill
within a week.
The municipality of Jerusalem
adopted a budget of 3,500,000
pounds - approximately $9,800,
000-for the current fiscal year.
The budget includes. large allo-
cations for housing of invalids
and war veterans.

U.S. Zionist Suggests
Reinterment of Imber,
Author of `Hatikvah'

Julius Haber, long-time Zion-
ist adherent just returned to
New York from Israel, has in-
stituted a movement to have the
remains of Naphtali Herz Imber,
author of "Hatikvah," trans-
ferred from the United States to
Israel.
Haber and his associates, who
befriended Imber during 1906 to
1909 in the lower East Side club-
rooms of the Austro-Hungarian
Zionists, are anxious to have
the remains returned to Jeru-
salem before December, when
the 23rd session of the World
Zionist Congress convenes in
Israel's capital.
During his recent . trip, his
thirteenth to Israel, Mr. Haber
visited his daughter, his grand-
son, and his son-in-law, Dov
Peleg (Bernard Popkin), chief-
of-staff of the Israeli Air Force.
Haber is associated with A. B.
Landau, Inc., in charge of busi-
ness eminating from Israel.

N.Y. Leader Warns
Against 'Peace' Petition

NEW YORK - The "Stock-
holm resolution" now being cir-
culated as a "world peace' ap-
peal" was vigorously denounced
as a Communist ruse by Mrs.
Caroline K. Simon, chairman of
the New ybrk Chapter of the
American Jewish Committee.
She warned that "every
American citizen must be on
the alert against this newest
ruse of the Communists." Mrs.
Simon is the only woman mem-
ber of the N.Y. State Commis-
sion Against Discrimination.

the Western Hemisphere. Mr.
Recanati disclosed that the

ability to carry its share of
Israel cargoes.

New Israel Nurses School

NEW YORK (JTA)-A school
for nurses at the Kupat Cholim

Hospital in Afulah, Israel, will be
