UN Probes New
Art Exhibit, X-Rays
On Tap at State Fair Israel Complaint

For the first time in recent
years there will be an art ex-
hibit at the Michigan State Fair
in Detroit Sept. 1 through 10.
Under the directions of Polly
Lours of the home arts depart-
ment, arrangements have been
made to exhibit works of Michi-
gan artists who have won
awards within the past year.
Prizes totaling $500 will be
awarded in the oil and water
color painting groups.
The State Fair, according to
general manager James D. Friel,
is featuring more free enter-
tainment and educational feat-
ures this year than at any time
since the fair was started over
a century ago.
Beauty Queens from all parts
of the State will be assembled
in the Music Shell to pass in
review for the judges and the
loveliest girl from someplace in
Michigan will be crowned queen.
Free chest X-ray examina-
tions will be available to all
Fair visitors over 15 years' of
age, through joint efforts of the
Detroit Department of Health
and the Tuberculosis and Health
Society.

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—The Is-
rael Government lodged a com-
plaint against Jordan with the
UN mixed armistice commission.
The complaint deals with an
incident which took place sev-
eral days ago south of Beersheba
when Jordan shepherds, backed
by soldiers of the Arab. Legion,
penetrated deep into Israel ter-
ritory. One Israel soldier was
killed in the ensuing clash.
UN representatives, accom-
panied by representatives of the
Israel Army, visited the scene
of the incident on Wednesday
with a view to opening an on-
the-spot investigation.
