Medal Posthumously Given To Baltimore Jew A posthumous holder of the Distinguished Service Cross, sec- ond highest American award for gallantry in combat, became the second American Jew to re ceive the Congressional Medal of Honor for service in World War II when his DSC citation, reviewed by the Adjutant Gen- eral's office, was uprated. He was Staff Sgt. Isadore S. Jachman of Baltimore, a para- trooper who lost his life in com- bat at Flamierge, Belgium, Jan. 4, 1945. Leo Jachman, father of the fallen combat man, received the nation's supreme heroism award at ceremonies at Ft. Meade, Md. The presentation was made by Lt. Gen. Leonard T. Gerow, commander of the 2nd Army. The late Lt. Raymond Zuss- man of Detroit, a tank corps of- ficer, was the other Jewish Medal of Honor recipient. Sgt. Jachman's uprating oc- curred when Senator O'Conor, of Maryland, learned, of his heroism and called the Adju- tant General's attention to the rare feat of heroism the Balti- performed. Jachman's family, includ- ing his mother and his brother Bernard, the latter just returned from two weeks duty with the Maryland National Guard at Camp Pickett. S. The announcement said that 35,000 cases, represent- ing a retail value of $900,000, are to be shipped from the famous Rishon Wine Cellars to the Israel Middle East Corporation in New York, for distribution throughout the United States.
