Checks Peace Petitions

In an exchange of telegrams
between Norman Berkley, Mich-
igan Department Commander*
and Mayor Albert Cobo, the
Jewish War Veterans were as-
sured that immediate steps are
being taken to investigate the
"so-called Peace Petitions" be-
ing circulated in Detroit as part
of the world-wide Communist
peace propaganda campaign.
Berkley, on behalf • of JWV,
wired Cobo that the petitions
were being circulated to "con-
fuse and befuddle" the citizens
of Detroit. Cobo replied that
the subversive squad of the
police department was investi-
gating the matter.
