IN NEW YORK, recently, Al
Bookman took his 12-year-old
son, Kenneth, to watch a radio
broadcast . . . The lad wasn't
much interested until he recog-
nized the voice of the announcer,
Clayton Collier, as that of Super-
man . .. After the broadcast, Al
and his young son sought out
the announcer, who readily ad-
mitted his dual role . . . "Umph,"
said the 12-year-old Kenneth,
speculatively eyeing Collier, "I'll
bet you couldn't even push over
the RCA Building!"
Day-campers from the four
urban camps operated by the
Jewish Community Center this
week began use of their new
country camp site adjoining
Pine Lake, donated by Israel
Davidson.
Campers and parents of the
12th Street Council Day Camp
held an all-day picnic at the
new site Sunday.
On the 100-acre, wooded tract
the Center youngster this sum-
mer will practice the skills and
crafts of outdoor camping and
pioneering living.
Hal Schneiderman, formerly
supervisor of the 12th Street
Center Day Camp, is supervisor
of the Davidson camp site.
Each of the four Center-oper-
ated day camps will have the
new camp site one day a week.
Registrations are still being ac-
cepted at all four camps, Camp
Habonim, Aaron DeRoy Memor-
ial Building, 8904 Woodward;
Camp • Northwest; Schulze
School, Manor near Santa Maria;
Dexter-Davison Camp, 4059 W.
Davison; 12th Street Center Day
Camp, 12th and Blaine Streets.
