He settled in one of the toughest spots in the land—in Kelta in the Negev—and there helped build a new civilization. An able poet, author of several short stories and a fine novel, Hayyim believes that Israel must be built speedily and that American know-how and as- sistance is important in this task. His sweetheart, 19-year-old Malkah, sharing his views, went to Israel nine months ago and joined him and his group at Kelta. Both returned here on June 26 on the first flight of the Israel El Al plane, to be married at a ceremony at Bnai David on June 29. On the plane with them were seven Detroiters who had com- pleted seven months of special leadership study at Beth Berl, near Kfar Saba. This entire group was among the 300 guests at the wedding. In less than a week's time, the wedding plans were made by the Brightmans and the Zeldises. The Israel spirit permeated the Bnai David main synagogue during the ceremony and the social hall during the wedding dinner. Rabbi Joshua Sperka, Rabbi Leo Goldman and Cantor Nathan Adler of Windsor offi- ciated at the ceremony. The guests were especially thrilled by a cable of congratulations from Hayyim's uncle, Max Lapides, who participated in JDC's efforts -to bring the Yem- enites to Israel from Aden and recently assisted in the move- ment of Iraqi Jews to Israel. Mr. Lapides, who cabled his greet- ings from Tel Aviv, informed the FLOWERS GRAEME Gratefully Acknowledge the Receipt of a contribution of two scholar- ships to the Scholarship Fund of the Schools from the Ladies Auxiliary of Kvutazh Ivrith, * * * one scholarship to the Schol- arship Fund of the Schools from Mr. and Mrs. Jujus Berman of Burlingame Ave. in memory of Mrs. L.
