The • East Side Merchants
Association cited reporter Louis
Tendler and the Detroit News
with the Acknowledgement of
the Year award at its June 18
banquet, for the series "Detroit
and the Negro."
Tendler authored the series
which dealt with the Negro's
problems in Detroit. The
Association termed the series
fearless and trailblazing in its
treatment of the city's race
issues. Hope was expressed that
designations of race will be elim-
inated from news stories and
advertisments in the near
future.
