LAKE SUCCESS—Israel announced a $28,000 contribution
for the UN technical assistance program before the 54-nation UN
Technical Assistance Conference.
NEW YORK—The World Jewish Congress has appealed to the
International Refugee Organization not to transfer Austrian Jews
in IRO camps in Austria to the jurisdiction of Austrian author-
ities. . . . The first Israel airmail stamps will be issued June 25 to
commemorate the first Lydda-New York flight of El Al Israel Na-
tional Airways.
WORCESTER, Mass.—The Catholic Messenger, official central
Massachusetts archdiocese publication, reported that German
Catholics were voicing disapproval of resurgence of anti-Semitism
in Germany.

ster, lauded Israel's Jerusalem plan, claimed to find sincere will

under construction throughout Israel as part of
the Ministry of Labor plan to build 40,000
units housing 150,000 immigrants in 1950-51 .. .

., HAIFA—Romanian Jews arriving here claimed a stiffening
attitude by Romanian authorities on Jewish immigration to
Israel; pre-immigration searches, confiscations, and refusal to
allow Jews holding posts in health services and economic life to
leave.

TEL AVIV--Satisfied with their commercial. relations, Ro-

mania and Israel have decided on renewing the present trade
pact for six months . . ,Israel rejected all charges of mistreat-
ment made by 120 Arab infiltrees, recently returned to Trans-

Jordan.

London Times editorial claimed that Israel-
Jordan border incidents in the face of the obvious desire for
peace by both countries, clearly necessitates a formal non-
aggression pact between the two states.
FRANKFURT—A three-day conference of 200 Jewish students
attending German universities ended with the decision to affiliate
with German Jewish communal bodies due to the imminent dis-
solution of the DP-led Central Jewish Committee . . . The first
Jewish social club in Germany since 1933 opened here with some
300 members.
MUNICH—The Bavarian provincial legislature voted unani-
mously to outlaw desecration of cemeteries, and the Free Demo-
cratic party asked the government to appeal to various cities to
assume responsibility for the care of synagogues abandoned by
former Jewish communities . . . Karl Sielmann, a German Jew
and former inmate of Theresienstadt concentration camp re-
ceived four years imprisonment on conviction of having mis-
treated fellow prisoners.
VIENNA—Soviet delegates on the four-power Allied Commis-
sion have again refused permission for the restitution of Aryan-
ized property to Jewish owners. . . Some 40 per cent of the
Jews in DP camps in Austria will be affected by the transfer
July 1, of IRO camps to the, jurisdiction of the Austrian Govern-
ment.
BUDAPEST—Minister of Education Joszef Revai told the Hun-
garian Workers (Communist) Party that authorities are receiving
hundreds of letters from Jews in Israel clamoring to return to
Hungary. He also reaffirmed Hungary's refusal to permit large-
scale emigration of Jews to Israel .

tine Jewry, has appealed to Mayor Virgilio Debenedetti to ban the
sale of anti-Semitic books in this city.

South Africa

CAPETOWN—The South African House of Assembly voted to

establish separate living areas for Europeans and non-Europeans.
The bill now goes to the Senate.

Australia

SYDNEY—Pledging aid to Jewish immigrants and loyalty to

the Crown, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry expressed
thanks to the Australian Government for its cordial relations with
Israel and went on record opposing admission of German nation-
als to Auhralia.

Disown Rabbi Preaching Acceptance of Jesus

TEL AVIV—(JTA)—The rabbi-
nate of Tel Aviv has disowned
70-year- old Bulgarian Rabbi
Daniel Zion for preaching the
acceptance of Jesus as one of
the prophets as well as the ac-
ceptance of the New Testament
as the proper sequence to the
Bible, it was revealed by Tel
Aviv Sephardic Chief Rabbi A.
Toledano.
The Chief Rabbi said that the
rabbinate reached the conclu-
sion that the former Bugarian
rabbi has lost • control of his
mental faculties and is no longer
able to conduct traditional Jew-
ish worship. The rabbinate ar-
rived at this conclusion after ex-
tensive investigations, Chief Rab-
bi Toledano said.

George Blair, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Herman Blair, were wed in
a double ring ceremony. Rabbi
Joshua Sperka, Cantor Hyman
Adler, and Rabbi Louis Milgrom,
of Minneapolis, Minn., uncle of
the bride, officiated.
The bride chose a gown of
ivory slipper satin overlaid with
chantilly lace, fashioned with a
high neckline and padded hips.
Her three tier cathedral length
veil fell from an ivory satin bon-
net trimmed with matching lace.
She carried white orchids and
stephonitis on a white Bible.
The bridal party included
Thelma Dosie, Elaine Shear,
Eleanor Verona and Gloria
Wright, cousin of the bride,
bridesmaids; Ruth Rosberg, maid
of honor. Diane Milgrom,and Su-
san Kosofsky were flower girls.
Jerry Gilfix, Sol Burkow, Dave
Metz, Irwin Wright, served as
ushers, and Herbert Schrieber
was best man.
Out-of-town guests included
friends and relatives from New
York City, Cleveland, 0., Minne-
apolis, Los Angeles and Toronto,
Ont.

Truman Names Jewish
Successor to Harriman

Jewish Education Year
Gets Truman Support

NEW YORK — (JTA)—Strong
support for the nationwide cam-
paign in observance of Jewish
Education Year, proclaimed in
1950 by the American Association
for Jewish Education, was
voiced by President Truman in
a message to Michael A. Stavit-
sky, Association president.
Pointing out that "under our
American democratic system, the
cultural and religious groups in
our nation bear a grave respon-
sibility for the education of our
children," President Truman
warmly welcomed "the nation-
wide campaign to develop in-
creased understanding of, sup-
port and enrollment in Jewish
education among the Jewish
communities of the United
States."
In response to the Associa-
tion's proclamation, Jewish Edu-
cation Year is being observed by
Jewish communities throughout
the United States and Canada
with special public functions.
Particular emphasis will be
placed this year on the annual
nationwide campaign to enroll
children in the schools conduct-
ed by congregations, communal
agencies and other Jewish or-
ganization.
The enrollment campaign will
be conducted during a special
five-week period, Sept. 5 to Oct.
13, designated as Jewish Educa-
tion Month.

Mrs. Arthur Braverman, the
former Helen Korman, and her
husband are honeymooning in
Florida, New York, and Niagara
Falls, following their marriage
on Sunday, May 28, at the Book-
Cadillac Hotel.
Helen is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harry B. Korman of
Wildemere Ave. and the bride-
groom's parents are Dr. and
Mrs. Herbert Braverman of New
York City.
Upon their return, the newly-
weds will make their home on

PHILADELPHIA — (JTA)—A
crank letter writer who had
been sending anti-Semitic post-
cards and letters all over the
country for several years was
apprehended here following an
investigation by the Philadelphia
Jewish Community Relations
Council, postal authorities, the
FBI and Pennsylvania state po-
lice.
The writer, believed to be suf-
fering from dementia praecox,
was held under the city's anony-
mous hate literature ordinance.
It is expected that he will soon
be institutionalized. He is a war
veteran, unemployed since 1944.

representative in Europe since
June, 1949.
Katz joined the Economic Co- .
op e r ation Administtation in
1948 as general counsel for Eu-
ropean headquarters. He was
acting director of ECA's pro-
gram division in 1949. A native
of New York City, he earned a
law degree at Harvard Univer-
sity and later served as an of-
ficial of a number of govern-
ment agencies including the
Reconstruction Finance Corpor-
ation, -. National Recovery Ad-
ministration, D e p a r t m ent of
Justice, War Production Board,
and Combined Production and
Resources Board.
During World Via r II he
served with the Office of Stra-
tegic Services and as Lieuten-
ant Commander in the Navy.
He is also a Professor of Law
on leave of absence from Har-
vard University.
