To Graduate 17

Temple Israel Slates
Election on June 15

The annual dinner meeting of
Temple Israel will be held Thurs-
day night, June 15, in the Jade
,Room of the Detroit Leland Ho-
tel.
Officers and trustees will be
elected.
Instead of the usual annual
report, Rabbi Leon Fram will re-
count his 25 years of service to
Detroit and his 10 years in the
pulpit of Temple Israel.
Featured on the program will
be the new Sisterhood Choral
Group, and a description of the
nearly-completed Temple build-
ing by Louis H. Schostak, chair-
man of the building committee.
Rabbi Fram will attend the
convention of the Central Con-
ference of American Rabbis this
week-end.

Young Israel Presents
Cantata at 27th Dinner

The 27th anniversary dinner
of Young Israel of Detroit, held
May 28, was attended by close
to 400 persons.
The program, included greet-
ings from Samuel W. Platt,
president; Morris H. Berris, gen-
eral chairman of the . event;
David Feldstein, chairman of
the journal, and an address by
Rabbi Samuel H. Prero, direc-
tor of Young Israel.
A cantata, "Hag Habikkurim,"
was presented by 24 members
of Young Israel. - Felix Resnick
conducted the cantata, with
Lillian Robbins as accompanist.

Resnick, Seymour - Ribiat, Marvin Selig-
son, Shlomo Sperka, Fayga Berris, Bar-

zin, Lillian Fox, Jackie Levin. Libby Ma-
gier, Frances Malach, Raye Rabinovitch,
Rochelle Sandweiss, Yetta Rubins, Esther
Seligson, Ursula Sitzman, Bernice
Schwartz and Judith Sperka. Rabbi Samuel
Prero adapted the speaking parts. and
Hillel L. Abrams was dramatic director.

Jerusalem Yeshivah
Delegates Meet with
Detroiters Saturday

Detroit members of the Ameri-
can Friends of Mir Yeshivah, in
Jerusalem, will honor two
guests from that institution at
a reception at 5:30 p.m. Satur-
day, June 10, at the Young Is-
rael Center, Dexter at Fullerton.
Rabbi Benjamin Finkel, son of
the Yeshivah dean, and Rabbi
Eliezer Yehudah, a lecturer at
the college, will be guests of the
Detroit community. They will
be accompanied by Dr. Samson
R. Weiss of New York, national
director of Young Israel and
former dean of Detroit's Yeshi-
voth Beth Yehudah.
Rabbi Leib Bakst, president of
the Detroit friends of Mir Ye-
shivah, invites t h e public to
attend the reception.

Beth El's Annual
Meeting Wednesday

The 100th annual dinner meet-
ing of Temple Beth El will be
held at .7 p.m. Wednesday, June
14, in the Franklin Memorial
Hall. Annual reports by Nate S.
Shapero, president of the Tem-
ple, and Dr. B. Benedict Glazer
will be followed by the election
and installation of officers and
trustees.
The Library of the Temple was
one of the eight Congregational
Libraries in the country to re-
ceive a citation from the Jewish
Book Council of America.
Sabbath morning services are
at 11 o'clock Dr. Glazer will
preach.

The annual graduation of the
high school of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek will take place at 8:15
p.m. Friday, June 9, at a special
late Friday evening service.
Rabbi Morris Adler will preach,
and Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorre-
lick will greet the graduates and
their parents. Cantor Jacob H.
Soneklar and choir, under the
direction of Dan Frohman, will
officiate.
The valedictory address will be
given by Frederick Horwitz.
Following the service, a social
hour will be tendered the grad-
uates, their families and friends.
A program will be presented by
the graduates on the theme,
"Our Jewish Life."
Dr. Leonard Sidlow, chairman,
committee on education, will of-
fer greetings. Harry Shulman
and Judge Charles Rubiner,
president of the congregation,
will present the diplomas. Abra-
ham Satovsky, president of the
Men's Club, will award the Na-
tional Federation of Men's Clubs
Medal to the most outstanding
student. The annual Men's Club
awards, in the form of Kiddush
Cups for the best students of
the Religious School, will be
made by Dr. Morris Burstein.
Members of this year's high
school graduating class are:

Silver, Sachar Speak
In CCAR Symposium

One of the highlights of the
61st annual, convention of the
Central Conference of• American
Rabbis at the Hotel Gibson in
Cincinnati will consist of a
symposium Sunday evening,
June 11, on "The Future of the
American Jewish Community."
The participants will be Dr.
Abba Hillel Silver and Dr.
Abram L. Sachar.

The third annual congrega-
tional. picnic of Temple Israel
will be held at 12 noon Sunday,
June 11, at Lola Valley Park.
Highlighted on the program
are two softball games, and an
exhibition by the Temple Israel
sponsored Cub Pack, under the
direction of Morton Bechek, cub
master. In addition, there will
be games and contests for all
age groups.
Mrs. Harold Schakne, repre
senting the Sisterhood; Nathan
Kolb and Ben Bagdade, Men's
Club; Alvin Talberg, Youth
Group; and Mrs. Jerome Arfa,
Young Women's Committee, are
co-chairmen of the general com-
mittee responsible for the event.
