NOW FEATURING A WIDE SELECTION OF
To Dr. A. M. Hershman
On the Occasion of His 70th
Birthday: A Dedication to My
Teacher and Friend
By N. E. ARONSTAM
Thou hast wrought vailantly in
the vineyard of Jewish
thought
In the brief span of three score
years and ten.
Thou hast dipped thy quill in
the well of History,
And brought to light the story
of thy brethren
During the dark ages, who dwelt
on the nether side of the Pil-
lars of Hercules.
This historical narrative has
gained thee
Fame and acclaim from the
world of scholars throughout
the land.
Not content with this historical
masterpiece
Thou hast taken upon thyself
a more arduous duty:
For to thee has been allotted the
task of translating.
The Book of Judges from the
original work
Of our great Codifier Moses Ben
Maimon,
Which the learned world has
proclaimed a gem
In erudition, interpretation and
scholarship.
This is just the beginning of thy
efforts;
Years still ahead of thee, shall
claim of thee greater achieve-
ments
In the field of Jewish learning.
Onward my friend, to newer
vistas and nobler heights!
In these lines I bring thee a
small token
Of appreciation of a truly mer-
ited Crown of Learning,
Which is thine.
Proceed from strength to
strength in thy future en-
deavors,
And may the God of Israel be
with you.
