AJC Women Raise $500,000, Hear
Broadway Actress at Victory Tea

"All Americans of whatever
creed have an intimate stake
in the old-new, tiny-great State
of Israel," Eva Le Gallienne,
famed star of the Broadway
stage, told the more than 600
women contributors to the Al-
lied Jewish Campaign at their
victory tea last week.
Miss Le Gallienne emphasized
that American dollars are more
vitally needed in 1950 to put
Israel's economy on a firm basis,
"now that the glamor of creat-
ing a state out of sheer will is
over."
Women's Division pledges to
the campaign total $500,000,
Mrs. Henry Wineman, honorary
chairman, reported, and Mrs.
John C. Hopp, chairman of the
women's drive, thanked workers
and contributors for their cam-
paign efforts.
Mrs. Royal S. Maas and her
daughter, Janet, made their
debut as a two-piano team play-
ing three selections.
