Dr. Neuman to Deliver Principal
Address in Honor of Dr. Hershman

Dr. A. A. Neuman, president of
Dropsie College and honorary
rabbi of Mikveh Israel of Phila-
delphia, the second oldest con-
gregation in the U. S., will be
guest speaker at the special late
Friday evening service of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek on May
26.
This service will - • honor the
70th _birthday of Dr. A. M. Her-
shman, rabbi emeritus of Sha-
arey Zedek, which occurs on
May 25.
Rabbi Morris Adler will greet
Dr. Hershman and will intro-
duce the guest speaker. Rabbi
Benjamin H. Gorrelick and Can-

Graduation Theme

Bnai David Religious School
will conduct commencement ex-
ercises for - graduates of its ele-
mentafy department, Sunday,
June 4, 10:30 a.m. at the syna-
gogue.
• The class theme for this year
is "The Jewish Calendat in
Song". A cantata has been pre-
pared by members of the class.
The musical portion of the pro-
gram will be carried out Eby Can-
tor Hyman Adler, Harry Siegel,
- Bnai David choir director, an
a symphonic trio.
Rabbi Joshua Sperka will de-
liver a message to the graduates.
Joseph Gorman, president of
the congregation, will ,present
diplomas. Mrs. Seldon' Leach,
president of the Sisterhood, will
present awards. Jeane Blatni-
koff has been chosen to deliver
the valedictory address.
Following the commencement
exercises, a reception will take
place in the social hall of the
synagogue, at which the par-
ents and graduates will be hosts
to their families and friends.

Jewish Chaplain's Flag
Offered to Synagogues'

NEW YORK—A proposal that

the Jewish chaplain's flag be-
come • the official 'Jewish relig-
ious flag of the synagogues and
temples of America has been
made by the division of religious
activities of the National Jewish
Welfare Board to the Rabbini-
cal Assembly of America, the
Central Conference of American
Rabbis and the Rabbinical Coun-
cial of America, for considera-
tion at their annual conventions.
The recommendation was made
at a meeting of the division of
a flag memorandum drawn by
Rabbi Aryeh Lev, director of -the
division. The memorandum had
recently been submitted to some
300 rabbis, who by a vote of six
to one showed a favorable dis-
position to the idea.

Leon Fram on the eve of Shevu-
oth Sunday, May 21, 7:30 p.m. in
the auditorium of the Detroit
Institute of Arts.
Theme of the special pageant
service for this occasion is "The
Building: of the Temple". Can-
tor Robert S. Tulman and the
Temple Israel choir, directed by
Karl W. Haas, will render She-
vuoth and confirmation music.
The confirmands will be led in
procession to the altar by Harry
C. LeVine, president of the con-
gregation, and Mrs. William P.
Greenberg, president of the. Sis-
terhood. -

from the congregation_ a gift of
a High Holy Days prayer book.
