Meals—just like books, plays
and people — can 'be very dull
and uninteresting. If you're in
a rut, take a tip from screen
star Hedy Lamarr and climb
aboard the pressuure cooker van.
The leading lady of Paramount's
"Samson and Delilah" a n d
MGM's "Visa" can make a won-
derful borscht in her pressure
cooker.
Borscht in Pressure Cooker

You'll need:
One and one-half lbs. lean brisket
or chuck steak, one inch thick; one
small marrow bone ; two cups water;
one large can tomatoes, strained ; one
teaspoon sugar; one teaspoon salt; one
piece sour salt, size of large pea.

Cook for one-half hour—al-
lowing the pressure to reach 15
pounds. Allow cooker to cool
gradually.

Then add:
Shredded cabbage, 2 'potatoes, 2 beets,
shredded; one-half green pepper (quar-
tered), and small clove garlic (minced).

Louis Marshall Lodge
To End Bellefaire Drive

Representatives of 49 organi-
zations and synagogues con-
vened at the Hebrew Benevolent
Society Sunday, May 7, to dis-
cuss the organization's plans for
making extensive improvements
on the cemetery and chapel
requiring large sums of money.
The delegates were addressed
by Samuel Oleshansky, president
of the Chesed Shel Emes, and
Harry E. Citrin, vice . president,
who called for the cooperation
of the organizations, synagogues,
and their members and the gen-
eral. public, in organizing a
city-wide membership campaign
as a permanent and regular
source of income with which to
finance the needed projected
improvements.
Following an open discussion
on the society's plans, the dele-
gates voted unanimously to en-
dorse the project and rally sup-
port behind it.

Louis Marshall Lodge will
make its final effort to secure
soft goods, toys, wheel goods and
clothing in an all-out pick-up
drive Sunday, May 14. Chairman
Al Goldstein has trucks, cars
and crews in readiness for this
drive to aid Bellefaire, located in
Cleveland. Anything that young-
sters, 6 to 16, can use will be ac-
cepted.
The bowling league of Mar-
shall Lodge elected the follow-
ing officers:
President, Morris Yaras; vice
presidents Sam Mager, Sam
Jacob; treasurer, Ben Gerson;
financial secretary, Jack Fein-
stein; recording secretary, Harry
Markman.

held Sunday evening, May 21, at

men's Circle. A special program

ing the lodge's 15th anniversary.

Board members of the
Women's Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation will hear
evaluation reports from their
campaign executive committee
on the women's role in the 1950
drive at a bruncheon Friday,
May 26, at the Jewish Center,

of officers which takes place at
the annual meeting in the fall,

Montefiore Lodge No. 12, Free
Sons of Israel, will hold an open
meeting Monday evening, May
15, at the Detroit-Leland Hotel.
Irwin Shaw, Fresh Air Camp
director, will speak on "How the
Community Provides damping
Opportunities for Children."
Thet -lodge has, as its princi-

president for the coming term.
Pressure , Cooker Hedy LaMarr
Other officers elected were:

Hedy also

gave me a wonderful Zimmes
recipe 'that she makes in her
pressure cooker too.
The star of MGM's "Visa" is
not only an excellent cook but
has every one on the set of her
new film working on her hobby.
That is pasting colored stamps—
steamed off her fan mail—onto
regular kitchen match boxes.
The simple but attractive result
is then given a coat of clear
shellac, making personal gifts.
For Zimmes in. a pressure
cooker you'll need:

2 lbs. beef cut for stew, 2 bunches of
sliced raw carrots, 4 sweet potatoes, cut
in half ; 2 white potatoes, cut in half;
1 cup fresh lima beans, 2 tablespoons
sugar, 2 tablespoons chicken fat, 11/2
cups water, *salt and pepper.

Brown meat in fat. Season.
Place meat on rack with the
rest of the ingredients. Cook one
'hour in pressure cooker.

A study shows that 16-year-
old drivers kill nine times as
many people per - 1,000,000 miles
of driving as do drivers of the
45-50-year old • group.
