Major End-of-Year Ceremoni6s Set
At Beth El; Plan Mother's Day

High school graduation at
Temple, Beth El will take place
at 8:15 p.m. Friday, May 12. -
During the graduation cere-
mony, activity keys will be pre ,-
rented to Helen Alexander, Luba
B. Jacobs, Sidney C. Kleinman,
Carol S. Lewis, Marshall Loew-
enstein and Judith A. Wise. The
Felix Winsen Medal for meri-
torious leadership throughout
high school years will be award-
ed to Sidney C. Kleinman,
Union Prayer Books, a gift of
the Men's Club of Temple Beth
El, will be presented to the 18
graduates, who will be greeted
by Dr. B. Benedict Glazer and
Rabbi • Sidney Akselrad. Other
participants will be Nate S.
Shapero, president of the Tem-
ple, and Walter D. Schmier,
chairman of the Religious School
Committee.
Saturday morning, May 13, at
/1 o'clock, the annual Mother's
Day service of Temple Beth El
will be held, with the following
participating: Mrs. M. George
Wayburn, president of the Sis-
terhood, Shirleyann D e u t c h,

Dr. Glazer will present schol-
arship, oratorical and literary,
awards to members of the junior
high, intermediate and high
school departments. On Sunday
morning, the school will wit-
ness a presentation of the "Holi-
days on Parade" by the inter-
mediate dramatic group.
The high school assembly will
be featured by a ceremony
marking the handing down of
responsibility from senior to
junior class. Opening and clos-
ing prayers will be offered by
Judy Horowitz and Janet Katz.
Marshall Loewenstein will de-
liver the charge in behalf of the
seniors and Bertram Shapero
will accept for the juniors. Sid-
ney Kleinman, student council
president, will preside.
Thirty-nine boys and girls will
be confirmed at the annual

Sunday. morning, May 21. The
children will be blessed by Dr.
Glazer and will receive Bibles,
a gift of the Temple Sisterhood.

First Graduation Set
For Week-Day School
Of Shaarey Zedek

The week-day Hebrew School
of Cong Shaarey Zedek will. hold
its first graduation at morning
services on the first day of She-
vuoth, Monday,- May 22.
Members of the first graduat-
ing class have completed a six-
year course in basic Jewish sub-
jects, including the Bible, the
prayerbook, Hebrew and religion.
The graduate,s will partici-
pate in special exercises follow-
ing ,the reading of the Torah.
Rabbi Morris Adler and Rabbi
Benjamin H. Gorrelick will greet
them. Dr..Leonard Sidlow, chair-
man, committee on education,

Dekoit Institute of Arts.

Youth." Diplomas will be pre-
sented by Harry C. LeVine, pres-

A special late evening service
will be held in honor of Dr. A.
M. Hershman, Rabbi Emeritus of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, on his
70th birthday, May 26.
Dr. Hershman served as rabbi
of the congregation for 40 years.
His recent scholarly edition of
Maimonides' Book of Judges,
published by the Yale University
Press, has on the acclaim of
the academic world and has
been included in a list of the
best religious works of recent
years.. -
Guest speaker at this service
will be Dr. Abraham A. Neuman,
president of Dropsie College and
honorary rabbi of the second
oldest Jewish congregation in
the United States, Mikveh Is-
rael of Philadelphia.
Rabbi Morris Adler will greet
Dr. Hershman and introduce the
guest speaker. Rabbi Benjamin
H. Gorrelick and Cantor Jacob

tion of its new synagogue, at
