JERUSALEM—(JTA)—The Is- rael Parliament has approved the government's policy on Transjordan's annexation of the Arab part of Palestine by a vote of 53 to 0, with many members abstaining. All opposing party motions on the question were defeated. Before debate ended, Nathan Friedman-Yellin,. former Stern- ist commander and now head of the Fighters Party, called on the government to reopen the war on Transjordan. Insisting that the government should have warned Transjordan that annex- ation would be considered a hos- tile act, the one-time under- ground leader demanded . that the Premier issue orders to the Army Chief of Staff "to com- plete the war on liberation." Jabotinsky Urges Israel Constitution Be Adopted The first speech in French was delivered in the Israel Par- liament Monday night by Eri Jabotinsky, son of the late founder of the Zionist Revision- ist Party, during a debate on the need for a constitution.. Mr. Jabotinsky spoke in French in order to show that in the absence of a constitution any language could be consider- ed official. He insisted on early adoption by Israel of a consti- tution which has been in prep- aration for a long time and ad- vocated that 'Arabic should not enjoy preferential treatment in Israel. After speaking for three min- utes in French during which he attempted to review the inter- national situation, he was call- to order by the speaker follow- ing protests from the House, whereupon Jabotinsky continued to speak in Hebrew. He predict- ed that west Germany will join Russia in the event a world war breaks out. The resolution demanded an end to the hiring of labor in any of the settlements of the movement. They stressed • pref- erence for continuation of the traditional • policy of employing only members of a collective settlement on the land and in the shops belonging to the set- tlement. The convention decided to complete arrangements for the immediate absorption in the settlements of several hundred refugee children. Abraham Asscher Dies AMSTERDAM, (JTA) — Dr. Abraham Asscher, Dutch indus- trialist, Jewish communal leader and one-time. political figure in pre-war Holland, died here at the age of 90. During the war Dr. Asscher and Prof. Dirk. Cohen established a Jewish Council in Holland, on orders from the Nazis. After the war the communal leader, who had been awarded Royal deco- rations by the Netherlands Gov- ernment and honored by t h e city of Amsterdam, was arrested by the Amsterdam authorities on charges of having collabor- ated with the Nezis. The govern- ment never followed through on his trial.
