thology both published and un-

the best of every type of Jew-
ish music, from synagogue litany

ditional Jewish genre are asked
to make them available to Vin-

Pesach Thouhts

By RABBI MOSES FISCHER

It was rarely noted that the
Torah designates the first eve
of our Pesach feast as "The Eve
of Vigilance" "Lel Shinurim."
How powerfully does this desig-
nation of our feast of freedom
as an Eve of Vigilance recall to
us the solemn forewarning that
"the Price of Liberty is eternal
Vigilance."
The second great lesson of our
Pesach laws—not less important
and weighty than the previous
one, is the precept, "that none
shall consume the Pesach offer-
ing while alone—only• within a
group or at least with a neigh-
bor near to him." The eternal
lesson of this commandment to
all free peoples is, that true
freedom cannot be the uncon-
tested firmly established posses-
sion of° an individual or a single
nation! If freedom shall endure
and resist all the forces allied
again it, we must share it with
our fellowmen and with other
nations.
The most striking expression
of genuine universal democracy
as it extends over a whole peo-
ple, over all the classes and
members of the community is—
to my mind—the Talmud in-
junction, "even the poorest and
humblest Jew must celebrate
the Pesach feast reclined, and
enjoy the four cups of redemp-
tion from Egypt." This dictum
of our sages is an everlasting
sign and symbol of the dignity,
equality and freedom of the
humblest Jew with his most
prominent brothers and with his
most honored fellowmen.

The haroseth, a pasty mixture
