Clothiers have long boasted of having such a garment . . . but never have it to sell! WHEN STEVE was eight years old, he was already learning to be a tailor in Palermo, Italy. . . . He'd go to school in the morning, and would spend the rest of the day working at the trade chosen for him. . • Little Stevie would stand in the door- way of the shop, holding a needle and thread, and watch the other .kids at play in the streets. • Whenever one of them tore his pants, Steve would be right there to mend them like nothing had happened. . . Many an Italian lad was saved from mama's violet wicket be- cause of the deft fingers owned by Steve. . . Today, 36 years later, those fingers are known from one end of the continent to the other. HIS REPUTATION preceded his arrival in America, in 1921 . and he was immediately hired by Fashion Park. . . For ten years, Steve helped make the famous clothes put out by that company. . . Then, in 1932, he came to Detroit, and went. to work as head tailor for Bernie Frant. . . Steve and Bernie were a great combination through 10 years of pleasing customers .. . and the greats of the shows and sports world carried their names all over the world. THIS MONTH, Steve Petix, Custom Tailor, celebrates six years since the opening of its doors on West McNichols Rd... His clientele numbers the finest dressed men in town. STEVE HAS ALWAYS main- tained that the finest tailors come from Europe "because they. learn as children". . . That's Why his list of employees in the modernistic cutting room is one big international get-together. There's a German-Jewish refu- gee and a French refugee. . . Another tailor comes from Israel and one comes from Italy. . . Sam Seppen is Steve's chief de- signer, and also responsible for many of the new styles emen- ating from the up-to-date shop with the stylish daylight light- ing system. * * WILLIAM SOROKIN is play- ing host to an aunt from Aus- tralia who he never knew exist- ed . . . and who he discovered quite by accident. . . A friend of Bill's, visiting in New York, went to a party and found out about her from an Australian stranger who happened to mention the aunt's name. . . This is the first time Mrs. Mania Chanen has been in America ... and already she has covered 16,000 miles in visits. . . Mrs. Chanen is also the aunt of Mrs. Paul Rodner.
