Passover Message
Urges Emigration
Aid For 120,000 Jews

American Jews are urged to
help more than 120,000 Jews in
Europe and Moslem-Arab lands
fulfill their dream of going to
Israel before Passover of next
year by giving full support to
the United Jewish Appeal, by
Edward M. M. Warburg, chair-
man of the Joint Distribution
Committee.
The chairman pointed out
that JDC plans to move a mini-
mum of 120,000 emigrants to
Israel this year could not be
carried out unless such support
was forthcoming. He revealed
that JDC was making it possible
for more than 500,000 Jews in
17 overseas countries to cele-
brate Passover and said that
JDC has provided a total of
more than 1,500,000 pounds of
matzoth and matzoh meal, and
nearly 40,000 bottles of Passover
wine. Largest shipments have
gone to Jews in Hungary, - Po-
land, and the DP countries, Ger-
many, Austria, and Italy.
As in previoug years, War-
burg pointed out, the holiday
will be marked by mass sedorim
in all JDC-maintained institu-
tions throughout Europe and
Moslem areas.
Some of the largest will be
held at JDC emigration camps
at Marseille, France, in the Bari
area of Italy, and in North Af-
rica at camps near Tripoli and
Algiers. Passover will be ob-
served, too, in JDC's Hashid
Camp in Aden, the reception
point for Jews arriving from
Yemen and from which they
are flown to Israel. In the DP
camps of Germany, Austria and
Italy, some 25,000 Jews will sit
down to what they hope will be
their last sedorim as DPs.

Israel Educator in U.S.
Seeking Teachers

NEW Y 0 R K — (ISI) — Isaac
Shapira, deputy director of Belt
Sefer Reali, Hebrew secondary
school at Haifa, arrived in New
York this week to study educa-
tional innovations in the United
States with a view to their in-
troduction in Israel.
Shapira disclosed that there is
a grave shortage of teachers in
Israel schools as a result of the
large influx of immigrants.
While in this country he will
seek to engage teachers to go
to Israel.
Belt Sefer Reali, founded 38
years ago, is a network of non-
party schools in Haifa and vi-
cinity. It has an enrollment of
3,000 children with '70 pupils
in its teachers' training college.
Shapira is also a member of
the Council for the Scout Move-
ment in Israel and will contact
those interested in this move-
ment while here.
