The Jewish Telegraphic Agen-
cy herewith presents its annual
all-American all-Jewish basket-
ball squad after a lapse of one
year. As in former years, the
aggregation was picked with the
help of such basketball experts
as Eddie Gottlieb, coach of the
Philadelphia Warriors; Abe Sa-
perstein, owner-coach of t h e
Harlem Globe-Trotters; Walter
Kennedy, publicity director of
the National Basketball Associa-
tion; Lester Harrison; coach of
the Rochester Royals, and Ar-
thur Morse, impresario for the
Chicago Stadium.
The committee agreed that
this year's selections. were not
on a par with those of previous
years. Most of the Jewish ball
players were located in and
around the New York area. For
the most part, the boys are
sophomores, so that they un-
doubtedly will be heard from in
stronger tones during the next
two years.
Noted as Scorer
Irwin Dambrot, co-captain at
City College, is a must on the
team, due to his phenomenal
scoring ability with his unstop-
pable left hand jump shot. Dur-
ing a period of four years, Dam-
brot has compiled the best rec-
ord in the history of City Col-
lege basketball.
Abe Becker of New York Uni-
versity. Dambrot's teammate at
the other forward berth, is a
bruising, slow-appearing giant
who has a talented left hand,
and also possesses a deadly out-
side shot. Becker can go into
the pivot and it was a post play
on his part that wrecked Notre
Dame last month.
At the center position, Ed
Roman, 6'6" City College giant,
started the year very well and
continued throughout the cam-
paign averaginc• 20 points per
game. He can hook with either
his right or left hands and is
a big man. He possesses an un-
canny amount of accuracy with
a one-hand set shot. He has a
tendency to be lax on defense
which must be corrected before
he can rate all-American honors.
At the guard posts, two tiny
mites hold forth—Al Rubenstein
and Eddie Gard, Cincinnati and
LIU respectively. Both boys are
very skillful dribblers and are
keen set shots from far out on
the court. Gard shows a reluc-
tance to shoot often, preferring
to feed the bigger men on the
LIU squad.
Cinci Charge Guy
Rubenstein was the take
charge guy in the fast breaking
attack that Cincinnati em-
ployed. Playing his fifth season
of varsity ball, the New York
youngster wrecked havoc With
his speed and aggressiveness.
The second team is probably
on a par with the first club with
Al Roth, burly 6'3" City College
stalwart and Jack Laub, six year
veteran with Cincinnati as for-
wards. Both boys are cute under
the boards and are exceptionally
fine. set shooters from outside.
Roth makes up for his slowness
of foot with his cleverness in
boxing out opponents and driv-
ing off the post.
Mel Seeman, 6'6" NYU man,
didn't start playing varsity ball
until the mid-semester but in
the short period of time allotted
him proved that he was one of
the better Jewish ball players in
the nation. He is not quite the
shooter that Roman is, b u t
probably is a mite stronger de-
fensively and better on t h e
boards than City College's cen-

played better ball in former
years for NYU, is cast in the
center role, •a, position which he
did not play this year. He is big
enough, however. His veteran
teammates include Al Kaplan,
tiny mite of the Columbia Uni-
versity five and Bob Brooks of
Pennsylvania, two of the better
performers in the Ivy League.
Up until the time he broke his
finger, Herbie Cohen was going,
great guns for City College ex-
celling with his speed and out-
side shooting.
Joe Post, probably more than
any other individual, was in-
strumental in leading Brooklyn
College to its best all-time sea-
son with a record of twenty-one
to four and an invitation to
the NAIB tourney in Kansas
City. At 6'3", he is a bruising
competitor, proficient in back-
ground play.
