"The Story of Joseph". by
Josephine Sanger Lau, publish-
ed by Abingdon- Cokesbury
Press, Nashville 2, Tenn., is a
good story for young readers. It
follows, in the main, the Bibli-
cal narrative, and its deviations
are not offensive.
Mrs. Lau, who has written
numerous stories for young peo-
ple, has shown a marked ability,
in "The Story of Joseph," to
visualize the events in ancient
history and the life in old Judea.
Her portraits of the shepherds,
her descriptions of the conflict
among brothers and her deline-
ations of the background of his-
tory and personalities are con-
vencing.
Joseph's selfishness, his arro-
gance, his vision of - power—all
these aspects in the Biblical
her's life are excellently inject-
ed iri Mrs. Lau's story. The able
illustrators are Edward and
Stephani Godwin.
Older readers will find this
book as interesting as will the
younger ones for whom it was
written.
