e
rtgaqemertb
With Michigan's four-year leadership in creating the na-
tion's school traffic safety posters and $2,275 in prize money
at stake, grade and high school artists these days are busy
sketching safety situations. SELMA ARKIN, daughter of Mrs.
Samuel Arkin of 4055 Glendale, a student of Cass Technical
High School, began early on the AAA national school safety
poster contest which ends Saturday, April 15. Subjects assigned
for Michigan students this year are "Watch for Turning Cars"
and "Wa lk on Left Facing Traffic." Anyone submitting an entry
on one of the subjects may also enter the. "open" class, ill-us-
trating any safety rule he chooses.

• It seems that JAMES MELTON
was predestined to sing. So, his
theme song, "I Will Bring You
Music," might well paraphrase
the musical career of "America's
Favorite Tenor" of the Metro-
politan Opera Association, con-
cert stage, screen and radio.
Melton comes to the Masonic
Auditorium here for a concert
on. March 28.
James Melton may rightfully
be called the "All-American
Star" of the music world, and
his legion of admirers take pride
in the fact that, native of the
South, he received his voice
training and operatic : schooling
in this country.
ADL Leader Defends
Group's Film Rejection
MIAMI—The right of minority
groups "to persuade the public
to reject that which they believe
threatens their security"—as, for
instance, the motion pictures
"Oliver Twist" and "Birth of a
Nation"—far from being an in-
fringement of the Bill of Rights,
is specifically within "the boun-
daries of law and the Constitu-
tion," Henry Epstein, former so-
licitor general of New York and
a national commissioner of the
Anti-Defamation League of Bnai
Brith, declared, speaking before
the Dade County Bar Associa-
tion.
Under the first article of the
Bill of Rights, producers of in-
flammatory motion pictures
"unquestionably have the right
to produce and exhibit their
products," Epstein said. At the-
same time, he emphasized; Ne-
gro, Jewish and Roman Catholic
groups retain their constitution-
al right "to make forceful pro-
test."
