cil of Jewish Women, will be pre- intelligence official . . . He cites the fact that Dzugashvili, Sta-
sented to the Detroit Section lin's original name, means "son of Israel" . . . To bolster his case
he relates that the Dzugashvilis were Caucasian mountain Jews
who were converted to Christianity at the beginning of the 19th
century . . . A middle western city has been chosen as the site
of a conclave aimed at forming a united anti-Semitic front .. .
Klan leaders are willing to drop their anti-Catholicism and con-
centrate primarily against Jews . . . The tendency of the Ameri-
can nationalists now is to organize along vertical rather than
- horizontal lines . . . This more than anything else explains the
reported numerical decrease of those organizations ... The hate
sheet Common Sense reaches perhaps a million people today as
against 7,000 copies that were published ,early in 1948 . . . The
middle west is rapidly becoming the center and core of the anti-
Semitic poison . .
Detroit and Chicago bear watching . . A
sheet in Detroit called "Eleventh Hour" has a wide distribution
and in circles where preachers often speak of anti-Semitism as
a sire` against Christianity . . . In Chicago the job is done by
"Woman's Voice" .

WASHINGTON, (J T A ) —
The Administration-support-
ed FEPC bill which was in-
troduced by Rep. Adam Clay-
ton Powell of New York was
defeated `by a vote of 221-178
when a coalition of Republi-
cans and Southern Demo-,
crats combined to force the
substitution of a bill which
provides for a voluntary ad-
herence to the principles of
FEPC. The measure, intro-
duced by Rep. Samuel K. Mc-
Connell of Pennsylvania, has
been described by civil rights
advocates as "meaningless
and ineffective."
This was the first time in
six years that a bill to estab-
lish a permanent FEPC man-
aged to get out of committee
and on to the House floor.
The McConnell measure pro-
vides for a five-man commis-
sion to study the problem of
discrimination in employ-
ment and to make recom-
mendations to eliminate it.
