A NUMBER. OF "firsts" will
mark concert by 45 members of
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
. . . March 5 . . . at Masonic
Temple . . . celebrating National
Jewish Music Month . . . It'll be
first time in history of Jewish
music that a major symphony
orchestra will present entire
program dedicated solely to Jew-
ish composers . . . Two Israeli
compositions by Marc Lavri and
Karel Salomon have been flown
here from Tel-Aviv and will be
heard for the first time in
America . . . 70th birthday of
Ernest Bloch, one of world's
greatest living composers, will
be celebrated with Marguerite
Kozenn singing his two Psalms
(114th and 137th) for first time
in Detroit.
THE CONCERT will also prob-
ably be the first time in our
local history that every group
of Jews, from the most pious to
the most reformed, will co-op-
erate in such a cultural event
together . .. Incentive for this
affair was to help the members
of the symphony orchestra . . .
They will receive the proceeds
. • Valter Poole will conduct
. . . Joan Freeman will appear
as piano soloist.

PETE CLAYTON, climaxed 25
years . . . half his lifetime . . .
with the Detroit Times, last
week, and employees from all
parts of the building chipped in
to present him with a gold
watch . . . Pete started out in
the newspaper games as an of-
fice boy with the old Detroit
Journal, back in 1914 ... He en-
tered the advertising field with
the Cleveland Press . • •. then
went to the Chicago Herald-Ex-
aminer . . . and, in 1925, came
to the Times, where he has be-
come one of the top space sellers
on the staff.

MORRIE ROSENTHAL, vice-

. Phil and his bride-to-be will

Brandeis University has adop-
ted a master plan for the de-
velopment of its 100-acre Wal-
tham, Mass., campus which pro-
vides for the construction of 50
new buildings during the next
10 years at a total estimated
cost of $22,715,000, it was an-
nounced by George Alpert, pres-
ident of the board of trustees.
The master design, created by
the firm of Saarinen, Saarinen
and Associates, will be executed
in two stages: the first calling
for the erection of facilitiei for
the Faculty of Arts and Sciences,
and the second providing for
the needs of the University's
projected professional and grad-
uate schools.
The first stage of the build-
ing activity will be launched at
once and calls for the erection
of 30 buildings at a cost of $13,-
215,000, including instructional,
laboratory, housing and extra-
curricular facilities for the un-
dergraduate college. Ground will
be broken within 30 days for
the construction of residence
facilities.

Nordau Chapter Begins
Membership Campaign
Nordeau Chapter of the Zion-
ist Organization of Detroit in-
augurated a three-month mem-
bership drive at its last meet-
ing.
The chapter also organized a
study group, which will meet at
9 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Max
Chomsky.
Plans were discussed for an
inter-chapter amateur program
to take place March 29 at the
Halevy Music Center.
Israel UNESCO Committee
TEL AV1V,:7— (ISI) — A tem-
porary UNESCO committee was
founded in Israel, with Minister
of Education Zalman Shazar as
president. The committee will
advise the government on mat-
ters pertaining to the UN body
and present the ideals of UN-
ESCO to the public. .
