Schermer to Speak
At Shaarey Zedek

That American college stu-
dents show less anti-Jewish pre-
judice than the country's popu-
lation as a whole, is disclosed in
a r epor t issued by Supreme
Court Justice Meier Steinbrink
of New York, national chairman
of the Anti-Defamation League
of Bnai Brith.
Based on a study of social' dis-
tance attitudes among college
seniors and freihmen conducted
for the ADL by the Elmo Roper
organization, the report reveals
that college students are over-
whelmingly opposed to quota
systems and other discrimina-
tory policies existing in Ameri-
can colleges.
The report revealed that only
one out of 10 seniors expresses
a preference for colleges which
discriminate. By contrast, ,al-
most one-third of the general
adult population—including col-
lege graduates and non-grad-
uates—are so inclined.
The study was made in con-
nection. with ADL's forthcoming
annual survey of anti-Semitism,
"A Measure of Freedom," by
Arnold Forster, ADL director of
civil rights. The book will be
published shortly by Doubleday.

Hashomer Hatzair Sells
Bricks fdr Camp Negba

"Buy a brick to help build
Camp Negba" is the slogan of
Detroit branch of Hashomer
Hatzair in its drive for the con-
struction of Camp Negba in the
Irish Hills, near Clinton, Mich.
Tose interested in selling
bricks are asked to contact
Sherwood Sandweiss, TY. 6-7256.
Camp Negba, a non-profit en-
terprise, aims to advance Hash-
omer Hatzair's program of ex-
tensive outdoor activities, sports,
hiking and other events, in ad-
dition to the educational efforts
of the movement.

The summer camp of Hash-
omer Hatzair attempts to trans-
plant the atmosphere of Israel
in its entirety to its members.
The camp gives a definite He-
brew orientation to every phase
of its activities, including He-
brew classes at different levels
and dramatic presentation.
The camp is named in honor
of Negba, a kibbutz (collective
settlement) of Hashomer Hat-
• air which played a major role
during the recent -hostilities in
Israel..
Many members of Hashomer
Hatzair in America intend to go
to Israel soon to settle in collec-
tive settlements such as Negba.

The Joke is On_Us:
Week's Classic Typo

The joke IS on us. The classic
typo appeared in our last week's
issue. In the advertisement an-
nouncing the planned lecture by
Louis Segal, prominent labor
Zionist leader, he was referred
to as "permanent Zionist leader."
Segal was unable to come
here and his pinch-hitter was
Isaac Hamlin, national secretary
of the Israel Histadrut Cam-
paign. We are assured, however,
that urgent fraternal matters—
not the Jewish News typo—de-
tained Segal in New York.
