NEW YORK (JTA)—Abraham
Dickenstein, formerly secretary-
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weinberg treasurer of the American Pal-
of LaSalle Blvd. announce the estine Trading Corporation
engagement of their daughter, (AMPAL) , was elected president.
He succeeds Benjamin Harris,
who was elected to the chair-
manship of the board of di-
rectors.
In his annual report to the
stockholders, Harris revealed
that the corporation doubled its
gross assets during the past year
from $5,500,000 to over $10,000,-
000. Also increased were the
capital resources which now to-
tal over $8,500,000 or $3;600,000
more than last year.
In excess of $6,500,000 was in-
vested by AMPAL in the financ-
ing of Israel projects during
1949, making a grand total of
$13,000,000 since the inception of
the corporation. These projects
included establishment of new
industries.

merged • into a united body.
The three groups are: the
Federated Klans of Alabama,
the Southern Knights of the
Ku Klux Klan and the Associa-
tion of Carolina Klans. The
only Ku Klux Klan groups which
are still outside the united Klan
is the Klavern of Atlanta.

appointed to head its regional

dies, 72 E. 11th St. Prince is a
member • of the Moledet Bnai
Brith Settlement, named in
honor of Bnai Brith of America.
Under the presidency of State
Senator Alfred. M. Cohen of
Ohio, Bnai Brith donated $100,-
000 to Israel, much of which
was used to establish that set-
tlement.

BEERSHEBA, Israel (JTA)-
Brig. Gen. Yigai Allon, com-
mander of Israel armed forces
in the Negev who led the cam-
paigns which resulted in driving
the Egyptian Army from the
southern part of Israel, took
leave from his forces.
On behalf of President Weiz-
mann he was presented with .a
copy of "Trial and Error," the
autobiography of the President
of Israel. The Beersheba mili-
tary governor 4presented him
with a silver chiseled Bedouin
sword.

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—An appeal
to the Israel Government to
make "vigorous effort's" to save
the Jews in Afghanistan was
directed by the Council of Af-
ghan Jews in Israel. The appeal
emphasized that Jews in Af-
ghanistan are now subjected to
the most cruel treatment and
are being deprived of their
means of livelihood.

ORT Trained 33,000
Students During 1949

NEW YORK, (JTA) — More
than 33,000 . students received
training at ORT institutions in
Europe, North Africa, Israel,
Latin America and the United
States during 1949, it was re-
ported by George Backer, presi-
dent. Approximately 10,200 com-
pleted their training and grad-
uated and 12,300 received partial
training before leaving.

ish Federation of Chicago spent
more than $56,000,000 during the
past 50 years of its existence for
a wide variety of local social wel-
fare, medical, educational a n d
other programs, it was revealed
at the 50th anniversary celebra-

THE HAGUE, Holland—(JTA)
—A new trade agreement be-
tween the Netherlands and Is-
rael, signed here, is valid for six
months.
The pact provides for Israel's
buying of 700,000 pounds worth
of Dutch goods, payable partly
from Israel exports to the Neth-
erlands and partly in payment
arrangements similar to those
existing during the previous
agreement. The new agreement
is subject to final approval by
both the Israel and Dutch gov-
ernments.
