Saturday, Feb. 4.
The anniversary service will
include prayers and responses
by the youngsters; songs by the
school choir, and greetings from
Ira G. Kaufman, president of
the congregation, and Rabbi
Jacob Segal, who will be chair-
man of the program.
A special Kiddush will follow
services.

Temple Israel Scouts
To • Conduct Service

The 40th anniversary of Boy
Scouting in America will be ob-
served at Temple Israel at a
special Boy Scout Sabbath eve
service in the Lecture Hall of
the Detroit Institute of Arts at
8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10.
Members of Troop 146, spon-
sored by the Men's Club of Tem-
ple Israel, will participate. The
Ner Tamid Medal will be award-
ed.
Sol I. Stein, chairman of the
committee for Troop 146, Dr.
Maurice J. Kimelman, scoutmas-
ter, and Toby Citrin, Ner Tamid
Medal holder, are preparing the
Troop for participation.
The following boys will read
the service : Toby Citrin, Joseph
J. Greenberg, Gerald Weinstein,
Robert Stein, Jack Hurwitz, Al-
lan Thompson, Alan Feiler, Ber-
nard 'Porzin, Joseph Korman,
and Newton Bernstein. Boys of
the Cub Pack, sponsored by the
Men's Club, also will be repre-
sented.
"Reverence" will be the theme
of Rabbi Leon Fram's sermon.
On Friday, Feb. 3, in the audi-
torium of the Institute, Rabbi
Fram will review "Mary," by
Sholem Asch. Karl W. Haas, or-
ganist and choir director, will
lead the choir of . Temple Israel
in a special program of music
in commemoration of Johann
Sebastian Bach, whose bicenten-
nary is being observed in Detroit.

hold a mid-winter dance in the
Synagogue's social hall.
Bill Gail's orchestra will fur-
nish music. Refreshments and

College of Jewish Studies
Opens Registration

The second semester of Beth
El College of Jewish Studies
opens at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13.
Courses will be offered in Jew-
ish history, biblical literature, re-
ligion, state of Israel, Jewish'
contemporary life, and Hebrew.
The college faculty consists of
Rabbis Sidney Akselrad, Morton
M. Applebaum, Friedma n,
Frank F. Rosenthal and Sanford
E. Saperstein. Dr. B. Benedict
Glazer is the director of the
school and Irving I. Katz, regis-
trar.
Registration is held at the
Temple office daily from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9
a.m. to 12 p.m.

Plan Banquet to Honor
Rabbi Goldman Feb. 19

Rabbi Leo Goldman will be
honored at a banquet at Bnai
Moshe Snyagogue at 6:30 p.m.,
Sunday, Feb. 19.
The banquet honoring the for-
mer Chief Rabbi of Norway is
being sponsored by Shaarey
Zion Synagogue, Adas Yeshurun,
the Bereznitzer Society, Rovner
Society and Lachowitcher So-
ciety.

Europe as correspondent for
Fortune and Commentary maga-
zines.

Honor Daniel Temchin

The annual donor dinner of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah will
take place ,Sunday evening,
March 19, at Cong. Bnai Moshe,
Samuel Hechtman, chairman of
tickets and arrangements, , an-
nounces.
Many communal groups are
taking tables in honor of Daniel
Temchin, premier Mizrachi
worker in Detroit and past pres-
ident of Beth Yehudah, to whom
the yearbook is dedicated.
Assisting Hechtman with tick-

Offer Program Feb. 8, Rabbi Lehrman Lectures
JWV Po.st Gives Medals At Jewish Studies School

Wednesday evening, Feb. 8,
the Scouts 'of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek will mark the 40th an-
niversary of Scouting with a
program featuring world broth-
erhood and the United Nations.
Honor medals will be awarded
by Sholom Post of the Jewish
War Veterans, the first to be
given to the outstanding Scout
of each troop at Shaarey Ze-
dek each year. The Scout Night
is sponsored by the Men's Club,
and the two Boy Scout units,
Explorer Post, Cub Pack, Girl
Scout . troop and Brownies will
participate.
On Feb. 11, Scout Sabbath,
Shaarey Zedek Scouts will par-
ticipate in services. A member
of Troop 164 will receive the
Ner Tamid • medal.

The Program Committee includes Mor-
ris Klaus, program chairman; Mrs. Harry
D. Baum, Milton Gottesman, Mrs. Albert

Leader to Speak Here

Rabbi Leizer Levin, president
of Agudath Israel of Detroit,
has announced a city-wide
meeting for 8 p.M. Sunday, Feb.
13, at the synagogue, 11331 Lin-
wood, when Michael G. Tress,
presidium-member of Agudath
Israel of America will be the
principal speaker.
Tress has been national presi-
dent of Agudath Israel Youth
Council of America for 10 years.
He also heads various Eretz Is-
rael projects of Agudath Israel,

tion's activities on behalf of -the
religious Yishuv in the, Holy

The Bnai David Friday night
