Orchids to All Our Workers

By MRS. M. STEINGOLD
JNF Fund-Raising Chairman

I am truly grateful for this allocated space which enables
me to express my deepest appreciation and thanks to the wonder-
ful army of women actively engaged in the 19th Annual Donor
Campaign of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Jewish National Fund.
A heart full of thanks to my co-chairman, Ty Schwartz,
for her most efficient and competent work with the entire staff.
It was her good judgment, experience, and cooperation that sim-
plified my duties, and enabled her to perform her own so com-
petently.

Our Efforts for JNF
Continue Unabated

By MRS. ALBERT H. PRAG
President, Ladies' Auxiliary a JNF

Thanks to the hel P and coo pe
ration of
the Detroit Jewish community, the Ladies'
Auxiliary of Jewish National Fund has played
an important part in American Jewry's con-
tribution • toward Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael.
We have been privileged through Jewish Na-
tional Fund to help lay the foundations of
Israel. We always will be proud of our part
in that achievement.
With the rebirth of nationhood for our
repatriated people, the program of the Jewish
National Fund takes on accents of urgency.
The Jewish National Fund must shoulder
its burden involved in the establishment of
hundreds of new
settlements annu-
ally, in the con-
struction of tens
of thousands of
dwellings, in a
vastly expanded
a n d accelerated
program of affore-
station, land im-
provement and ir-
rigation.
Instead of labor-
ious dunam ac-
quisition, millions
of dunams of land
must now be re-
deemed.
Detroit Jewry
Mrs. Prag
has made important contributions to the
Jewish National Fund in the past—and it is
reasonable to believe that its efforts in this
field will continue unabated.
At this time I wish to extend my sincere
thanks to Mrs. Maurice Steingold, our fund
raising chairman, and her entire staff of of-
ficers; Mrs. Harry Schwartz, co-chairman;
all the donor event secretaries; the division
chairmen and their co-workers, and all the
members of the Ladies' Auxiliary for their
splendid cooperation and untiring efforts in
bringing the campaign, both financially and
culturally, to a successful conclusion.
May the victories of our day lead to the
perpetuation of justice for Israel and all man-
kind.

Our president, Sophie Prag, was always on hand to guide and in-
struct me> The facilities of the Jewish National Fund Office, with
Mr. Arthur Shutkin, the executive director, and his office staff, were
made available to our requirements at all times. In addition, Mr.
Shutkin -addressed as many as two and three organizations some
evenings to pave the way for solicitations.
Millie Schumer, assisted by Emma Sikov, worked tirelessly to
receive and record the donor money. Linda Buchman, our pledge
chairman, was literally a wizard at double-
checking every pledge card to make sure
it was covered. Assisted. by a group of volun-
teer typists, she completed our list of don-
ors for this donor supplement. It was a
most trying job.
Many thanks to Diane Arlin, who not
only played the leading role, but wrote
and directed a Molly Goldberg skit for the
formal opening of our campaign. The entire
cast was perfect. We salute them for an
excellent perforance I Program chairman
Zelda Selmar, assisted by Ann Silver and
her committee, has done her utmost to
bring you fine programs. I know she will
grace the stage beautifully as our chairman
this afternoon. Orchids to our special
chairmen, Esther Davis, Sarah Schwartz,
Mrs. Steingold Mrs. I. Lawton, Mrs. Jack Grossbart, Diane
Arlin, Gertrude Lachover, Bernice Stollman, Rose Lightstone and
Helen Ring, for earnestly and conscientiously handling their assign-
ments.
' Now come my thanks to the division chairmen and their captains.
Many of these women were new to this most difficult of all work, but
in many instances proved more capable and efficient than we ever
dreamed possible. I think those chairmen might well be referred to
as our generals, for they have directed and participated in every ma-
neuver, and every battle. They are responsible for the results of this
campaign. Outstanding . workers in Rose Aaron's division are: Mes-
dames Meyer Cooper, Chas. Friedenberg, Irving Hermelin, S. Cabot, S.
Heyman, M. Kwaslow, Sam Aaron, A. Selesney, M. Hittman, J. Gold-
farb, B. Miller.
Ann Brody was responsible for a large proportion of the total
amount raised in her division. The outstanding workers of that division
are: Mesdames Albert Posen, William Klafer, N. Linden, Elka Freed-
man and J. Bookstein.
Outstanding workers in Esther Chodoroff's division are: Mes-
