NEW YORK—A proclamation
to 1,000 rabbis in the United
States to speak from their pul-
pits at Saturday's services con-
cerning the "historic outrage of
drawing newly-arrived children
in Israel away from their re-
ligious faith," was issued by Agu-
dath Israel of America.
The call requests Orthodox
congregations to send protest-
cables to the Israel government
regarding "the grave injustice of
forcibly rearing the thousands of
children arriving daily from Ye-
man and other lands in irreligi-
ous schools, contrary to the
faith of the overwhelming ma-
jority of the children's parents."
The proclamation concludes
with a plea to religious Jews to
demonstrate their "solidarity"
with Israel MiniSter Izchak Mey-
er Lewin, Agudath Israel leader,
and other ministers of the re-
ligious bloc, who have created a
cabinet crisis by threatening to
resign unless the matter is cor-
rected.
