Temple Beth El to Honor Bnai Brith.
At Sabbath Eve Services on Jan. 27

Bnai Brith was introduced in
Detroit ' in 1857, when Pisgah
Lodge No. 34 was founded. The
Organizers of Pisgah Lodge were
the same men who founded
Temple Beth El, Michigan's first
Jewish Congregation, which is
now observing its centennial
anniversary. '
The founders included Jacob
Silberman, Marcus Cohen, Louis
Beefy, Herman Freedman, Sam-
uel Sykes, Simon Heavenrich,
Emmanuel S chlos s, Seligman
Schloss; L. Bressler, S. Schwab,
A. Hart, Morris Hirschman and
Morris C. Fechheimer. Jacob
Silberman was the first presi-
dent of Beth El, as well as the
first president of Pisgah Lodge.
