Notorious Labroue Sentenced
PARIS (JTA) — Prof. Henri

More Than 25,000 to Enter
Israel During December

Labroue, who held the "chair of
anti-Semitism" at the Sorbonne
during the Nazi occupation of the
French capital, was sentenced to
20 years solitary confinement.
The educator -stated in his de-
fense that he had established an
institute for Jewish studies in
order to permit him to combat
"Hitlerite anti-Judaism," but the
prosecution read into the trial
testimony an article by Prof.
Labroue in which he attacked
five Catholic priests for assist-
ing Jews to escape the Nazis and
for denouncing Nazi persecution
of members of that race.

More than 25,000 immigrants
will reach Israel during Decem-
ber, setting a new immigration
record fOr the Jewish State, it
was disclosed by the national
chairmen of the $250,000,000
,United Jewish Appeal, which
helps support the immigration
and settlement programs in
Israel.
The problem of preparation,
transportation and maintenance
of these immigrants will be one
of the principal • subjects of dis-
cussion at the National Confer-
ence of the United Jewish Ap-
peal, at Hotel Chelsea, Atlantic
City, Jan. 12 and 1'3.

WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals
upheld a contempt of Congress
conviction of Joseph P. Kamp,
author of anti-Semitic publica-
tidns and vice-president of the
Constitutional Educational Lea-
gue of New York.
Kamp, who was given a four-
month jail term last March, had
been cited for contempt by the
House Campaign Expenditures
Cbmmittee because he did not
comply with a request to divulge
the names of contributors to the
League. He had been free on
bond pending the appeal to the
Circuit Court.

Syrian Jews Prohibited
From Selling Property
LONDON (JTA)—The Syrian

Cabinet decided to prohibit Syri-
an Jews from selling their prop-
erty in Syria, a Reuters dispatch
from Damascus reported.
It was also officially announced
in Damascus that two American
magazines, Life and Newsweek,
have been banned in Syria on
charges that they are "pro-Zion-

Celler Named Chairman of
American Red Mogen Dovid

NEW YORK (JTA) — Repre-
sentative Emanuel Celler was
named chairman of the American
Red Mogen Dovid's drive to en-
roll 250,000 new members. He
has served as chairman of the or-
ganization's board of sponsors for
the past six years.
