Committee to Select Wise Award Recipients A panel of noted Americans, under the chairmanship of Federal Judge Simon H. Rifkind, has accepted posts on a com- mittee which will select the re- cipients of the four Stephen S. Wise Awards established by the American Jewish Congress last year, it is announced by Rabbi Irving Miller, AJC president. The awards, of $1,500 each, are to be made annually for outstanding service in four ma- jor areas of Dr. Wise's interests: the development of Israel; de- fense of Jewish status through- out the world; extension of civil rights in the United States, and the advancement O'f Jewish cul- ture and learning. Serving on the awards com- mittee with Judge Rifkind will be Dr. Abraham Sachar, presi- dent of Brandeis University; Dr. Abraham A. Detroit Wires Support To Premier of Israel Detroit Zionists' support of the Israel government's move to Jerusalem was transmitted to Premier David Ben Gurion last week as one of several hundred wires and messages, affirming his action. The messages were sent through the American Zi- onist Council. Ring in the (JTA) — Five prizes of $500 each were award- ed to three Yiddish and two He- brew writers whose works were selected as the best literary works in Yiddish and Hebrew published in the U. S. this year. The Yiddish winners were: Jo- seph Rolnick and H. Rosenblatt for their books of poetry; and Bezalel Sherman for his study "Jews and Other Ethnic Groups in the United States." The He- brew winners were Harry Sack- ler, for a volume of short stories, "Rainbow in the Clouds"; and Daniel Persky, for a book of essays.
