Simon and Schuster Revolutionize
Children's Books with Unique Works

There is no end to the inno-

their books which so often be-

This is true of children's as
well as adult books. But their
children's books have so many
attractions that their unique-
ness stands out superbly in their
field.
Take as an instance Walt Dis-
ney's "Cinderella: A Golden
Puppet Show." The famous story
of Cinderella — taken for this
Golden Toy Book from the
forthcoming Disney feature film
—comes to life here, through 10
movable puppets on five stage
settings. The pictures were
adapted by Retta Worcester. All
are in full color. Even the cover

Then there is another novelty
in the book field as an outstand-

Thy Book—"Let's Go Fishing,"
story by K. and B. Jackson and
pictures by Richard Scarry.. The
novelty of this book is that each
member of the fish family is
movable, with an ear. There is
a fishing rod and hook to en-
able the reader to go fishing
into the book for its sea prod-

flounder, whale.
Both books will serve as de-

Hungary Frees
Jerusalem Budget JDC's Jacobson
Sel at 3 Million IL
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — T h e

U.S. delivered a strong note of
protest to the Hungarian Gov-
ernment following the arrest of
Israel Jacobson, director of the
Joint Distribution Committee in
Hungary.

Hungary will release Ja-
cobson, it was announced
Wednesday, but he will not be
allowed to remain in the
country. Charges that he was
a spy will be dropped.

Israel and Britain Wrangle in Court
Over Claims to German Retributions

LONDON, (JTA)—The British
Government has issued a writ
against the Anglo-P a l e s t i n e
Bank claiming $5,020,000 in for-
mer German assets, the Tel Aviv
correspondent of the Daily Tele-
graph reported. The dispatch
stated that before the termina-
tion of the British Mandate over
Palestine, Britain and Australia
had agreed that the assets of
Germans, to be resettled in Aus-
tralia, should be handed over by
the bank to British agents, who
would then transfer them to the
Commonwealth Government.
The Anglo-Palestine Bank has
refused the transfer because the
Israel Government claims the
same amount from the bank on
the grounds that all former as-
sets of Palestine accrue to Israel
as reparations from Germany.
In a move to counteract the
British suit, the Israel Govern-
ment has applied to the courts
to establish the legal status of
the funds.
The announcement explained
that Israel had attempted a
settlement of the issue within
the framework of many other
problems between the two na-

tions—some of which have al-
ready been ironed out. However,
the British action has forced
Israel also to ask the courts to
settle the question.
The announcement recalled
that the funds were turned over
to the Israel Custodian of Enemy
Property shortly after the ter-
mination of the British Mandate.
The Custodian instructed the
bank to transfer the funds to
London to be credited to the
British Government, but the
transfer was never carried out
because of the complete isola-
tion of Jerusalem, which was
then under siege.
Later, when the country was
at peace, it was legally impos-
sible to transfer the 'money be-
cause the Israel Government
Foreign Exchange Controller
would not give permission. At
this point, Israel claims, the
funds should remain with the
Custodian of Enemy Property,
who continues to function.
