'49 Campaign Funds Budgeted ;
79 Per Cent Will Go Overseas

In recognition of the most
pressing needs among the Jew-
ish people. the board of Gover-
nors of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration has allocated the larg-
est percentage of 1949 Allied
Jewish
Campaign funds for
overseas and Israel according to
the summary of allocations re-
leased this week by Abraham
Srere, chairman of the Federa-
tion executive committee.
. The funds for overseas and
Israel represent 79 per cent of
the total amount allocated for
1949-50, or $3,639,101.
According to fields of service,
the percentage of allocations for
health and welfare was 13 per
cent with 90 per cent of the
$607,523 apportioned to that ca-
tegory going to local causes; for
educational and cultural, the
amount allocated was $176,419,
or four per cent of the total,
with 90 per cent of this award
also going to local agencies.
Community Relations
Community relations agencies
received $162;038, or four per
cent of the total, with slightly
more than half going to nation-
al services.
Budgeting and planning for
overseas and Israel is handled
directly by the executive com-
mittee of the Federation, while
the same processes for:the other
fields of service are carried out
by three budget and planning
divisions, all of which are sub-
ject to the approval of the board
of governors.
A community-wide budgeting
conference, to be called by the
Federation Sunday, Jan. 22, will
give Federation members an op-
portunity to work out the for-
mula for 19k0-51 allocations, by
fields of service, hi advance of
the opening of .the 1950 Allied
Jewish Campaign.

Fox Movies in Israel

TEL AVIV—(ISI)—Fox Movie-
tone Film Company intends to
build modern cinemas in Jeru-
salem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Na-
thanya, according to an item in
Haaretz.
The Press and Cinema division
of the Ministry of the Interior
issued 2,500 licenses for film per-
formances this year. Of these,
399 were for films which had not
been seen in Israel previously.
Six films did not receive licenses
since they were considered too
"brutal."
