National Christian Committee
To Aid United Jewish Appeal

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Establishment of a National Christ-
ian Committee to enlist all Americans in support of the
United Jewish Appeal was announced this week by Henry
Morgenthau Jr., general chairman. Mr. Morgenthau said
Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. will serve as national chairman ,
of the newly created committee.
Roosevelt said he welcomed the opportunity "to help
rally Americans of all faiths behind the United Jewish Ap-
peal," adding he could conceive of "no greater act of Christ-
ian brotherhood than helping in the task of rescuing and
rehabilitating the-hundreds of thousands of Jews who were
left homeless and destitute as a result of World War II."
Morgenthau pointed out the Jews of the United States
recognize they have a special responsibility in meeting,
through the United Jewish Appeal, needs in Israel, Europe,
North Africa and the United States totalling $272,455,800 in
1950.

Build Ford Plant at Haifi

A plan to establish a plant in
Israel to assemble Ford trucks
for use in Israel was disclosed
by Dr. Shaul Lipschitz, chair-
man of the board of tie Pales-
tine Automobile Corporation,
Ltd., who just returned here by
plane from the United States.
The plant, to be located in the
Haifa seaport city, will assemble
urgently needed trucks to help
o v e rc o m e Israel's transport
shortage and to hasten the in-
dustrial and agricultural ∎ evel-
oSment of the new state.
(The Jewish News learns on
good authority that the Ford-
Israel contract - for the estab-
lishment of an assembly plant
in Haifa was signed in New
York, prior to Dr. Lipschitz',s
return to Israel, on Dec. 9).

An initial party of 73 Arab
women- and children, who had
spent the last 18 months in
Lebanon separated from their
husbands and fathers, crossed
the frontier at Rosh Hanidra
where they were met by Israel
immigration and health offi-
cials. They were driven to Acre
to join their fannies.
In view of the threatened
closing of the Haifa refineries
by the British management, due
to the continuing lack of crude
oil from Arab nations, the Haifa
Labor Council voted .to send a
