Anti-Semitism Termed
Cause of Peekskill Riots

NEW YORK (JTA) —The
American Civil Liberties Union
reported that an abnormal
growth of anti-Semitism in
Peekshill, N. Y., prodded into a
mood of violence by the local
press, was the basic cause for
the riots which broke out there
last. summer during a concert at
Which Paul Robeson appeared.
The report, whose signatories
included Rabbi Irving Miller,
president of the American Jew-
ish Congress, declared: "The un-
provoked rioting was fostered
largely by anti-Semitism, grow-
ing out of local resentment
against the increasing influx of
Jewish summer residents from
New York. It was heightened by
the area's tradition of political
violence."

NEW YORK, (JTA)—The Na-
tional Conference of Jewish So-
cial Welfare announced that its
51st annual meeting will be held
in Atlantic City, June 4-9, at the
Hotel Chelsea.

Graham Young, South African
adventurer whose cruise from
Cape Town to the West Indies
in a 34-foot yawl is recounted in
the best seller "The Wind Is
Free," will appear in person with
his color pictures.
