Jewish Center Activities

(The Jewish Community Center, 8904 Woodward, is a Red Feather Agency
and Affiliated with the Je wish Welfare Federation.)

In conjunction with the Board
of Education, the National
Council of Jewish Women, the
Jewish Vocational Service and
the Resettlement Service, ENG-
LISH CLASSES are being held
at the 12th Street Council for
newly-arrived DPs. The course
will run for three weeks with 12
hours of instruction.
Four classes, with 25 students
each, have been organized, with
two teachers from the Board of
Education in charge.

All JUNIOR MEMBERS and
parents are invited to attend
the HANUKAH PARTY to be
held at 2 p.m. Dec. 18, in the
auditorium of the Aaron DeRoy
building. The program is pre-
pared and presented by the fol-
lowing ' Sunday junior clubs:
Bunnies, Chirpies, Sports, Gold-
en Swan, Co-Kets, Shmoos,
Sharks and Pixies. All juniors
are urged to bring swim suits
for a splash party afterwards.
Latkes and cocoa will be served.

Center swimming pool Saturday
evening, Dec. 17. Entries also
have come in from the Women's
City Club, Detroit Turners, No-
land Recreation Center, St.
Clair Recreation Center and
other clubs and schools in the
city. Championship events on
the evening's program are the
Men's 40 Yards Freestyle and
120 Yards Individual Medley,
Women's 220 Yards Freestyle
and Boy's 100 Yards Breast-
stroke. Five special open swim-
ming races will round out the
evening's contests.
Tickets for the swim meet may
be obtained at the Center pool.
Since seating capacity is limited,
it is advisable to get tickets in
advance. Preliminaries for the
8:30 meet will start at 5:30 p.m.

Stanley Wandruff, Norm Dress-
ler, Bob Jaffe, Don Siegan, Mar-
shall Cortney, and Joe Schore.
Backstroking will be Ray Feder-
man and Ery Rubinstein, while
Marty Siegel, . Marshall Blondy,
Bobby Marans and Mary Klax-
ons will be in the breaststroke
events. Bob Kavieff will be the
lone diver for Manny Ratner's
squad this season.

Relations for the Detroit News,
will speak on the topic, "What
Can We Believe" at the meeting
of the WEDNESDAY EVENING
DISCUSSION GROUP, in the
Ginsburg Lounge, Dec. 21, at 9
p.m. The public is invited.

bunal meeting in this city after
a two-day trial, condemned a
Jewish clothier named Leibush
Bosak, 34, to eight years' penal
servitude, and 10 years' depriva-
tion of his civil rights, for hav-

ing beaten to death a number of
Jews and others in the Silesian
wartime concentration camps of
Waldenburg and Marstedt„ by
order of the camp authorities to
obtain better conditions for him-
self.
