Mizrachi Group Starts
Shekel Drive Sunday

Dr. and Mrs. Morris E. Bach-
man announce the engagement young adult group, will begin
of their daughter, Eleanor, to its shekel drive, Sunday, Dec. 18,

the Young Israel Youth Center
at 11. The entire group will at-
tend the wedding of its mem-
ber, Ruth Cooper, in the after-
noon. In the evening a Hanu-
kah party will be held with the
senior group.

Coming to Detroit for its pre-
miere on Jan. 1 and 2 at Music
Hall, is the Yiddish-English ver-'
sion of "Anna Lucasta."
First a Broadway play, and
then a motion picture, it is now
receiving even greater praise in
its newest adaptation.
"Having seen the play in
English, or even the motion pic-
ture should not deter anyone
from seeing this unusual pro-
duction, because it is unique in
itself," a leading critic stated.
Miriam Kressyn will appear
in the role of "Anna".

Schkloven Honored
On 60th Birthday

known Detroit attorney who for
many years was active in Jew-
ish community affairs, was hon-
ored on his 60th birthday at a
banquet arranged in his honor
by Arbeiter Ring (Workmen's
Circle) Branch 156.
Mrs. Schkloven, their children,
Dr. Norman Schkloven, Mrs. J.
Aptekar, Mrs. Frieda Paperno
and their families, were among
the guests.
Joseph Bernstein delivered the
principal address in which he
outlined the contributions that
were made to the Arbeiter Ring
by Mr. Schkloven. Others who
spoke included, besides Mr.
Schkloven, Joseph Brumberg, Dr.
Shmarya Kleinman, S. Nutkie-
vich, Mr. Schloven's children
and Arthur Schechter of Grand
Rapids. An appeal by Mr. Brum-
berg resulted in contributions of
$3,200 to the Jewish Labor Com-
mittee in Mr. Schkloven's honor.
Mr. Schkloven was one of the
leaders in the anti-Nazi boycott
movement. A reception at the
Schkloven home followed the
banquet.

Tikvah Lodge Invites
- Children to Festivities

Max H. Littky, president of
Tikvah Lodge, Bnai Brith, and
Philip Kramer, chairman of the
special affairs committee, an-
nounce that the lodge will be
the host to children of its mem-
bers and friends in the com-
munity at its third annual Ha-
nukah party at the Beth Aaron
Synogague, Wyoming at Thatch-
er, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18.
The committee is busy ar-
ranging for prizes and refresh-
ments. A program of entertain-
ment and fun is scheduled. As-
sisting in .the preparation and
handling of the events will be
the women of Tikvah Chapter.

Israel, India Consider
Exchange of Scientists

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Meyer W.
Weisgal, chairman of' the ex-
ecutive council of the Weizmann
Institute of Science in Israel,
arrived here to participate in
conferences in New York on the
campaign to raise funds for the
Institute.
Weisgal revealed that India
and Israel are considering an
exchange of scientists despite
the fact that India has not as
yet recognized the Government
of Israel. He expects to remain
in this country for approxi-
mately three months, working
with the American Committee
for the Weizmann Institute.
