Dr. L. Neuhaus Writes
Plea for Renewal of
Traditional Sanhedrin

Arguments for the re-estab-
lishment of the Sanhedrin, the
Jewish religious court, were re-
cently published by Dr. L. Neu-.
haus, rabbi of Cong. Gemiluth
Ohassodint.
Outlining the history of the
Sanhedrin, Dr. Neuhaus lists the
Council of Three Judges, the
little Sanhedrin, of 23 members,
and the Great Sanhedrin, which
developed out of the municipal
council of Jerusalem. Its '71
members 'had jurisdiction over
religious matter and important
civil and criminal cases.
"Today, however, now that
Providence has restored the
Jews as a nation; it should be
the will of the Jewish people,
its free will, to found a San-
hedrin. Such a central authority
is of the utmost importance,"
Dr. Neuhaus writes.
