Louis Steinberg Dies;
Won Fame with Musk

Louis Steinberg,- native De-
troiter who gained national fame
as a musician, died of a heart
attack Sunday at the age of 61.
Funeral services were held Wed-
nesday. Burial was in Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Rabbi J. S.
Sperka and Cantor. Hyman Ad-
ler officiated.
Steinberg, who was in Florida
until recently, made his home
here with his nephew, Raymond
Steinberg, at 2640 Gladstone. He
is survived by his sister, Mrs.
Charles Gitlin of 2750 Elmhurst.
At the age of 16, he was one
of the founders of the old News-
boys Band. He carried a gold
card as a life member of the
American Federation of Musici-
ans on whose executive board
he served from 1925 to 1930.
He traveled with name bands
throughout the country, playing
the drums, xylophone and bells,
and played on pleasure boats
for many years before his re-
tirement. He played for years at
the old Temple and Garrick
Theaters.
Elks Lodge No. 34, of which
he was a member, paid tribute,
to his memory at a meeting on
Tuesday evening.
