Community Fetes Aaron Droock

CHICAGO
Members of the
American Jewish Committee's
executive committee, meeting
here, urged Jewish organizations
to refrain from engaging in
open controversy in the public
press because of the harm they
do to the position of Jews in the
United States.
The sessions, attended by
more than 100 members of the
AJC's Executive Committee, and
chapter representatives from 28
major communities throughout
the country, were devoted large-
ly to statements from Zionist
and anti-Zionist groups which
were allegedly giving the Amer-
ican public the impression that
Israel was intervening in the in-
ternal affairs of American Jews
and impugning their patriotism
and loyalty-
The groups under discussion
were Israeli officials, leaders of
the Zionist Organization of Am-
erica and the American
Council for Judaism. The del-
egates reffirmed the Commit-
tee's position that it regarded
as axiomatic that the Jews of
America "while having an abid-
ing friendship for the new State
and a sincere desire as Ameri-
cans to aid in its development,
have no political affiliation with
the State of Israel," and empha-
sized their unalterable opposi-
tion to any concept of world
Jewish nationalism.

A large gathering of his Jewish and non-Jewish friends
was assembled at Temple Beth El Oct. 27 at a reception hon-
oring Aaron Droock, past president of the Jewish Council
Community Council. Among those who paid tribute to Droock's
community service were, left to right above: EDWARD M.
TURNER, of the City of Detroit Mayor's Interracial Committee;
SAMUEL LEIB, president of district six of Bnai Brith; AARON
DROOCK ; DR. B. BENEDICT GLAZER, JCC vice-president and
chairman of the evening: DR. SHMARYA KLEINMAN, Council
president, and SIDNEY M. SHEVITZ, chairman of the Zionist
Council of Detroit.
