week-end in Chicago with members of their family.

a motor trip through the New England states.

returned from New York and for the present are residing with
her , parents, Dr. and Mrs. Michael Freeman.
Mir. and Mrs. Louis Michael, of Kansas City, Mo., are spending
tie week ,with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis
urn of Fairfield Ave. They are expecting their brother, Sam
aum of Denver, to join them for the week-end._
Miss Carrie Barmon of Buffalo last week visited with members
of her family anttfriends here.
, Mrs. Frank Wetsnan of Boston Blvd. has returned from Los
Angeles where she •spelt a few weeks with members of her family.
Mr. and Mrs. Max avian of Balmoral Rd. and Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Shalit of Whitmore Rd. spent a feW .days in New York where
they met their children, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Shalit (Louise Zivian)
upon their return from their -.honeymoon in Europe.
" Mrs. Samuel Hartman of Shiexsbury Rd. returned on Wednes-
day from 10 days in New York and Boston where she visited her
son, Arthur, a student at Harvard. •
Stanley Imerman of Gloucester Dr. is expected home this
week-end from an extended European tour.
Mr. and Mrs: Clement Hopp of Longfellow Ave. spent the last
week-end in Chicago visiting friends.
Miss Anne Gordon spent 10 days visiting with her cousins,
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence W. Crohn of Wildemere Ave. enroute from
- her home in Los Angeles to Akron, 0., where she will be the guest
of her brother-in-law and sister.
Mr. and Mrs. S. David Hershman and their daughters, Susan,
Judith and Deborah have moved from Tuxedo Ave. and are now
residing at 2669 Glynn Ct.
Aar. and Mrs. William Boesky of Wildemere Ave. have returned
from Miami Beach.

Flags to Mumford

Lt. - Roy F. Green Post has
purchased an American. flag and
the flag of the United Nations,
for presentation to the new
Mumford High School at a spe-
cial ceremony at 2 p.m. Satur-
day, Oct. 22. The flags will be
presented by post commander
Oscar Freedenberg and depart-
ment judge advocate Arthur M.
Lang.

Robert Rafelson: Post has set
aside Oct. 24 for a party for chil-
dren of Gold Star Mothers "of
World War II, at the GAR
building, Cass and Grand River.
The men will handle the tech-
nical details of the party and
the auxiliary will serve refresh-
ments.

a party at the home - of Esther
Field, 13227 Pembroke, for mem-
bers who have purchased donor

haunting ground for the annual

dancing, as well as ballroom
dancing. All members of JWV

The Auxiliary of Sholom Post
held a membership meeting at
the home of Mrs. Leah Safron,
Thursday, Oct. 13. On the pro-
gram were Mrs. Robert Gutter-
marl, dramatist, Harry Kobrl,
vocalist, accompanied by Vivian
Kozenn, and Mrs. Arlene Rhodes.
Mrs. May Ginsberg, president of
the JWV Ladies Auxiliary, De-
partment of Michigan, greeted
the women.

Walkowitz Paintings
Go on Exhibit in N. Y.

NEW YORK—"Seventy Draw-
ings and Paintings by Abraham
Walkowitz," an exhibit com-
memorating the artist's 70th
birthday, has been arranged by
the Jewish Museum, 1109 Fifth
Ave.
The exhibit, which wilt run
through Nov. 14, will feature
works executed at the turn of
the century, depicting faces and
fig-tires of the lower East Side,
and constitutes the first time
that this particular phase in
Walkowitz's 50-year-long career
has been assembled for public
•display.

The memory and work of
Count Folke Bernadotte, UN
Mediator in Falestine, who was
slain in Jerusalem a year ago,
is now premanently honored at
United Nations headqualters
by a bronze tablet. UN nc-

City of 'lope Drive
Launched at Dinner

The 1949 campaign for $50,-
000 for the City of Hope, for-
merly the Los • Angeles Sani-
tarium, at Duarte, Calif., was
officially launched at a dinner
at Bel Aire.
Samuel H. Gaulter, national di-
rector of the hospital, addressed
the gathering, which was spon-
sored by the Detroit Business-
men's Group of the City of Hope.
He described the research in
tuberculosis and cancer being
conducted there and the devel-
opments being made toward
cure of these diseases.
Other speakers included Na-
than R. Epstein, president of the
Detroit Auxiliary and Business-
men's Group; Morris Frumin;
Adolph Lichter, vice president of
the men's group; Frank Rosen-
baum, co-chairman of the din-
ner; Rabbi Jacob Segal, and Ben
Goldberg, secretary of the asso-
ciation. Charles P. Nathanson
was head of arrangements.

The dramatic group, directed

a Yiddish-American musical re-

Katz.

of two new chairmanships. Mrs.
Theodore Brown will head a new

The Detroit League of Women
Voters will present Rabbi V Leon
Fram at its mass meeting on
the November election at WWJ
auditorium Tuesday night, Oct.
25. Rabbi Fram will speak on
Charter Amendments C and J,
relating to pensions for city``
employees.
As chairman of the commit-
tee on pensions of the Mayor's_
Charter Study Commission, Rab-
bi Fram and his committee
made a: thorough study of the
city pension and retirement
system and appeared before the
Common Council to recommend
that amendments improving the
pension system and removing
some of its inequities shall be
placed on the ballot. The Coun-
cil adopted the committee' rec-
ommendations unanimously.

Club One Luncheon
Marks Anniversary

In October, 1925, a small group
of Detroit women organized Club
One, Pioneer Women, the third
group in the entire United
States. And on Tuesday, Oct. 18,
1949, a large group of women
met at the Labor Zionist Insti-
tute and celebrated the 24th
anniversary of Pioneer Women
and Club One.
Some of the original members
still remain in Club One; others
have left for Israel. Mrs. S. Gold-
oftas is now chairman of the club.
Mrs. S. Levin, who joined Club
One shortly after October, 1925,
discussed the history of the
club, and Mrs. S. Helperin of
Cleveland, east central regional
representative, spoke on mem-
bership:
