Histadrut Leaders
Report on Israel

Leaders of Detroit's Histadrut
Committee, Nathan Rose, presi-
dent of Bereznitzer Aid; Morris
Ross, Bereznitzer seer e tar y
Bernard Milinsky, Labor Zionist
and Farband leader, and Sam
Rabinovitz, director of the De-
troit campaign, reported to a
special meeting of the Histadrut
Campaign Executive about their
recent visits to Israel, and called
for - intensified s u p p or t from
American Jews for Israel and
the Histadrut.
Rose told of the impressive
military parade and demonstra-
tion he witnessed in July and
the sober realization by Israel
that it must be prepared for all
eventualities.
Rose reported that the great
source of idealism in Israel is
the cooperative agricultural set-
tlements where extraordinary
efforts are being made to in-
crease food production and ab-
sorb newcomers, particularly
children.
Milinsky was greatly im-
pressed with the sacrifices being
made by the Jews of Israel to
insure the normal development
of the country and to make
room for the newcomers.
Because of the essential pio-
neering job being done by the
Histadrut without duplicating
the work of any of the other
national agencies, it was agreed
to continue the independent
campaign in the United States.
The Detroit executive commit-
tee voted to begin the local
campaign early in December,

Mayor Rokach Protests
Jaffa-Tel Aviv Merger

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Mayor
Israel Rokach of Tel Aviv
protested the Israel Cabinet's
decision to unite the cities of
Jaffa and Tel Aviv under the

Revealing that he had not
been consulted in advance

declared he w o u l d appeal
the new name. Granting that
Jaffa is a city which traces
its history back to Biblical
times, Mayor Rokach insisted
Tel Aviv had e a r n e d the
right to "write its name in
golden letters." He. suggested
Jaffa retain its name as a
district of a Greater Tel Aviv.
