YOUNG ISRAEL YOUTH CENTER

Young Israel of Detroit will
dedicate • its Youth Center, on
Dexter and Fullerton, Sunday,
Oct. 30, with ceremonies to which
the entire community is invited.

field during the war and post-
war years, and one of the found-
ers of the National Council of
Young • Israel, will deliver the
main address.
The dedication will herald the
Initiation of a number of com-
munity services in the new
building. -
Young Israel's 14 youth groups,
which to date have been meet-
ing in various synagogues and
in private homes in the several
Jewish neighborhoods, will now
consolidate their social, recrea-
tional and educational gather-
ings in the Youth Center.
These groups consist of (1)
Story Hour I for boys and girls
4-6; - (2) Story Hour II; ages 7-8;
(3) B'nos Emunah I, girls 9-10;
:(4) B'nos Emunah II, girls 9-10;
(5) Beth Yehudah Boys I, 9-il;
(6) Beth Yehudah Boys II, 12-14;
(7) Yocheved Girls, 11-13; (8)
Batya Girls, 14-15; (9) Rayos
Girls, 16-17; (10) Young People's
Club, boys and girls 15-18; (11)
Kadimah Girls, 18-20; (12) Sdout
Troop; (13) Girl Scout Troop;
Youth Rally Oct. 23
To initiate the fall program,
a youth rally will be held Sun-
day - afternoon, Oct. 23, to which
all children of the community
are invited.
Dr. Hugo Mandelbaum, Chair-
man of the Educational Com-
mittee, announces that the
Young Israel Institute for Jew-
ish Studies will open its second
year. .
Registration for members and
non-members will be conducted
by Hillel, L. Abrams, registrar,
beginning Oct..15 and extending
through the opening. Classes will
meet Tuesday and Wednesday
evenings.
In addition, Young Israel will

Sobeloff Embarks
On Triple Mission
To Europe, Israel

Isidore Sobeloff, executive di-
rector of the Jewish Welfare
Federation of Detroit, is leaving
today for a month's trip to Eu-
rope and Israel in behalf of the
Joint Distribution Committee,
the Jewish Agency for Israel and
the Council of Jewish Federa-
tions and Welfa,re Funds •
Sobeloff was invited by the
three agencies to undertake spe-
cial missions for each. His first
assignment will take him to
Paris, to participate as the JDC
•eprese'ntative in a conference of
European regional directors, to
help determine 1950 policy and
program.
Later in October, Sobeloff will
.go to Israel to take part in a
conference considering the re-
lationship of the JDC, and the
Jewish Agency for work in Is-
rael. While in Israel, he will con-
fer - With Harold Gla,sser, of the
CJE'VVF Institute on Overseas
Studies, of which Sobeloff is -a
member of the advisory board.

tional United Jewish Appeal,
supported in Detroit by the
Allied J e w i s h Campaign, of
which the Federation is the

In Sobeloff's absence, William

Oct. 11, in the Youth Center.
The fifth annual donor lunch-.
eon will be held Monday, Nov.
14, in the Center and will feat-
ure a fashion show by Annis
Fur Co. Mrs. David Berris is
chairman of the event.

Urges Absolute
Priority for UJA

JERUSALEM (JTA)—All Zion-
ist organizations and groups in
the United States were called
upon by the Jewish Agency ex-
ecutive here "to give to the
United Jewish Appeal absolute
priority, cooperation and as-
sistance in its campaign in be-
half of Israel."
The call by Berl Locker, chair-
man of the Agency 'executive,
emphasizes that the statement
was being issued "in order to
clarify some misunderstandings
which have arisen in cOnnection
with the conference on multiple
campaigns" which took place in
Israel last July."
"The United Jewish - Appeal is
the principal instrument for
fund-raising efforts for Israel
in the United States," Locker
said, "and is entitled to receive
maximum cooperation and as-
sistance from every Zionist or-
ganization and must haVe pre-
ference before any other cam:-
paign both in terms of timing
and techniques used."
Citing the Hadassah and Ge-
werksdhaften campaigns, L o c-
ker stated that theae campaigns
have received the approval of

"For many years they have done,
and are doing, important work
in their respective fields. They
have decided to continue their
campaigns, 'recognizing the
