The first triplets born in a DP camp to come to America,
arriving - in Boston on the SS GENERAL HOLBROOK, register
varied reactions on the initial view of their promised land. The
trio was born to Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Warschawski_in the Felda-
fing DP camp in Bavaria, Germany, just as the couple was
about to immigrate to the United States under the sponsorship
of H1AS. This complicated matters somewhat. But disappoint-
ment at the delay was overshadowed lay the Warschawskis'
joy in having children once . more, for their first two babies
had been killed by the Nazis. ,HIAS expedited arrangements
and obtained visas for the triplets (SAMUEL, left, EVA, crying,
and LEIB) , their parents, a grandfather, and an uncle, all of
whom will reside with Mrs. Warschawski's brother, Samuel
Saiornan, in Washington, D. C.

Behind the UN Curtain

Bevin's silence on Jeurusalem when he addressed the General
Assembly was considered in some circles a good omen for Israel
position on the issue .. . Conjecture along those lines received a
blow when people close to the British Foreign Minister declared
in off-the-record talks that such. an interpretation was not war-
ranted by the facts. Conservative opinion veers to the view that
London may hesitate to nullify the friendly tone which is said
to have crept into the relations betweenTel Aviv and 10 Downing
Street Should London show an anti-internationalization hand
the policy will reflect religious rfather than political influences
... Although English churchmen at first reacted favorably to the
Vatican encyclical on Jerusalem many of them have cooled off
to the proposition . . . Protestants are now fearing Vatican pene-
tration into the Holy City '. . This division may well influence
the final vote in the Assembly.
London is cool to internationalization for another reason. It
would like to placate King Abdullah who has been dreaming of
becoming the ruler of the Old City of Jerusalem . . . Under inter-
nationalization Abdullah would see his cherished dream smashed
to smithereens and he would never forgive London . . . Despite
all protestations to the contrary the Arab states themselves are
not too keen about internationalization They realize that the
friction bound to result from international authority will not
rebound to their favor .. . Religious Moslems are not unmindful
of the fact that international penetration would in the end
mean Christian penetration.
It is certain that the Soviet bloc will oppose an international
status for Jerusalem ... But if it is outvoted it will demand rep-
resentation in the controls . S .Since there can be no logical re-
jection of such demand by a great power the sole escape from .
the dilemma is to ignore the internationalization proposal .. All
political, religions and territorial factors point to only one solution
—international aegis of the holy places only, with the New City
of Jerusalem under Jewish hands ... Well informed. Lake Success
sources believe that the internationalization plan will not have
the unanimous backing of the Latin-American bloc . . . As this
picture emerges the odd fact remains that the United States • is
the sole. great power now 8ehind the -Vatican position.

Israeli and destined for the cantorial path until he wandered to
the road of sportS, his staying a*ay from duty that day has gained
him the, respect of many 'people, Jews and Christians alike . . .

NEW YORK, (JTA)—Having
restored more than 1,000,000 Jews
in Europe to health, the Joint
Distribution Committee is about
to complete its medical rehabili-
tation program which is the
greatest postwar program of this
kind undetaken by a voluntary
relief agency, reported Dr. Wil-
liam M. Schmidt, overseas medi-
cal director.
Dr. Schmidt said that "a basic
improvement in the health of
the 'surviving Jews of Europe is
in evidence nearly everywhere.
The rate of communicable dis-
ease has dropped sharply and
malnutrition is almost non-
existent."
One of the major factors in
winning the fight against the
effects of malnutrition were the
155,000,000 pounds of food, pur-
chased with funds provided by
American Jews through the
United. Jewish Appeal, which
Were shipped to Europe during
the past four years by the Joint
Distribution Committe e; Dr.
Schmidt stated.
The JDC rehabilitation pro-
gram, he said, has made pos-
sible the emigration to Israel of
tens of thousands of European
Jews who would not otherwise
have been able to leave Europe.

closed, three transient centers

PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — Dis-
crimination agpinst qualified
Jewish. students 'seeking admis-
sion to colleges is widespread in
private colleges in the. North-
eastern section of the country,
Elmo Roper, public opinion ana-
lyst, declared in an address at
the 11th - annual dinner meeting
of the. Phidalephia Jewish Com-
munity Relations Council.
He said that' this statement
comes as a result of a nation-
wide study, of factors affecting
the - admission of high school
seniors to college which he
completed earlier this year un z.
der the auspices of the Ameri-
can Council on Education. The
study, he declared, was based on

• at what happened to their ap-
pikations.
