Immigrant Writes His
Story as an American

A HAPPY NEW YEAR

In "Memoirs of a New Ameri-
can," published by Bloch, Na-
than Kushin describes the joy
he feels in being a citizen of
this country and outlines a half
century of experiences 'since
coming to these shores.
The story of his life here,
since the turn of the 20th cen-
tury, is one of struggle as well
as of success, but its particular
emphasis is on t h e highest
American ideals.
"If I had the ability to des-
cribe the reverence and joy felt
each time I reached the shores
of America from abroad, I am
sure that self-appointed patriots
would not doubt the sincere love
we immigrants ha,ve for our
country," is the way in which
he shows the devotion of new-
comers to America. In this fash-
ion he berates the false flag-
wavers.
An interesting tribute is - paid
to the author and his book by
Dr. Solomon Grayzel, editor of
the Jewish Publication Society,
in a foreword in which he
states: "Mr. Kushin's autobio-
graphy will - help us remember
the generation of wanderers
who found a new home and laid
the foundation for a new Jewish
community proud of its heritage
and glorying in its American-
ism."

NEW YORK—A vigorous as-
sertion that "American Jewry
has the resources to meet both
its domestic and overseas re-
sponsibilities" was made by
Philip M. Klutznick of Chicago
at the closing session of the bi-
ennial meeting of the executive
committee of the Jewish Center
Division of the National Jewish
Welfare board.
Mr. Klutznick announced the
appointment of Mrs. Samuel R.
Glogower of Detroit as national
program chairman.
